contender for funniest chapter opening of any retelling. ever. step dad pelli takes a tumble. whoopsie. (the road to avalon by joan wolf)
arthurian books iāve read:
TheĀ Road to AvalonĀ (Wolf)
Romance, historical based, Arthur and Morgana are protagonists, Arthur/Morgana, Guinevere/Lancelot, LGBTQ themes (Agravaine is gay)
ā Morgan le Fay + Ā books Ā {6/ ā}
the road to avalonĀ (joan wolf) Ā Ā
ā She had to clench her hands to keep herself from reaching for him. What was there to say? That she would always love him? But he knew that already.Ā āBe the king you were born to beā, she said at last. He stood for a moment, poised and taut as an arrow, then turned and left her room as silently as he had come.ā
The pageantry and passionate intrigues of King Arthurās court are expertly re-created in this historical novelāthe only Arthurian novel in which all of the central characters are portrayed as intrinsically good people. This realistic retelling of the legend shows Arthur severing the bonds of bastardy, vanquishing the Saxons, and loving one woman. As the daring teenage warrior prepares for the throne, he discovers true love with Morgan of Avalon, the youngest of Merlinās daughters, but fate cruelly thwarts their hopes for a future together. Never before has a telling of the Arthur story made the breathtaking drama of this charismatic king more real or moving. Ā (x).

Thoughts on "Road to Avalon"??? What made it you like it?
Iāve read it a while ago, but I do remember loving how the author decided to approach the whole GuinevereLancelot vs ArthurMorgana thing, it made for an interesting and harmonious world. She also decided to go into a complete new territory with Mordred, and I truly appreciated it (a lot).
But my old reviews was written just after reading it, so it might be more useful than my current memories
You mentioned "The Road to Avalon" was among your favorites. If I may ask, what about it makes it your favorite? Or what did you like about it? :)
I do like it! Itās been some years since Iāve read it, but I remember enjoying Arthurās characterization (even if he is not my fav character, his characterization is great, and I especially liked that the book put him in the center of the romantic triangle), and the way the author decided to use Mordred (quite original!). I also enjoyed how the author takes time to try to fit characters and motivations in the overall story.
This is the review I wrote at the time!
