The preachers tell us that pride is a great sin, but the preachers are wrong. Pride makes a man, it drives him, it is the shield wall around his reputation... Men die, they said, but reputation does not die. - Bernard Cornwell, The Last Kingdom

I believe in the Christian God, but I do not believe he is the only God. He is a jealous, sullen, solitary creature who hates the other gods and conspires against them. Sometimes, when I think about him, I see him as being like Alfred, except Alfred had some decency and kindness, but Alfred never stopped working or thinking or worrying. The Christian God also never stops working and planning. My gods like to loll in the feasting hall or take their goddesses to bed, they are drunk, dissolute and happy, and while they feast and fornicate, the Christian God is capturing the world.

October 4, 2018: Bernard Cornwell as Beornheard; behind the scenes on the set of The Last Kingdom, season 3. Posted by TheLastKingdom on Instagram.
You are a witch. You do bewitch. Yes you are.
Brian Cox (Major Michael Hogan), Daragh O'Malley (Sergeant Patrick Harper), and Sean Bean (Lieutenant Richard Sharpe) in the 1993 ITV production of Sharpe's Eagle, and adaptation of Bernard Cornwell's 1981 novel. This was the second episode in ITV's Sharpe series of television films.
Bean fans will be happy to know that he survives the entire series which, despite some budgetary restrictions, is well worth the watch. Not only is it extremely entertaining (and somewhat educational), but it's a hoot to spot all the guest-stars who went on to fame afterwards (i.e. Cox, Elizabeth Hurley, Pete Postlewhaite, Alice Krige, James Purefoy, and Paul Bettany to name a few)
And I cannot recommend enough author Bernard Cornwell's series chronicling the life of Richard Sharpe in His Majesty's Army. There are 24 books in the series (the latest, Sharpe's Storm, was just published in December), the bulk of which concentrate on his exploits during the Napoleonic Wars.

Sharpe + Incorrect Quotes (Part 7)
"Five things make a man happy," I told him, "a good ship, a good sword, a good hound, a good horse, and a woman."
"Not a good woman?" Finan asked, amused.
"They're all good," I said, "except when they're not, and then they're better than good."
