Everyone needs someone they look up to. Whether it be friends, family, celebrities, etc. It doesn't have to be that you desire to be exactly the same as them but more so replicate some especially likable qualities, and characteristics.
As one who is deeply engaged in the finance field, my model since the fourth grade has been Jim Cramer. He is a TV personality and host of Mad Money on CNBC as well as he appears on numerous other shows.
What's my draw? Cramer's work ethic. Cramer's work ethic speaks for itself. He puts in over 18 hour days, and has don it consistently for the last 40 years of his career since the age of 27.
I am motivated by his passion and desire/curiosity to learn. It has shown me and trained me from a very early age that work does not have to feel like WORK. Work can be fu engaging, interesting, and a hobby if you choose for it to be. Otherwise, work will work you to your core.
I have been desperately on the look out for a career that gives me the same level of enjoyment and passion from various aspects of the job. However, this has also very largely changed over the previous years.
Throughout the start of high school I was shadowing dentists for over 200 hours in 1 year. I could not get enough of the surgeries and the impact they could have on patients.
However, as i grew comfortable with many of the cases and procedures, I wanted to explore more invasive and complex surgeries in different anatomical contexts. So I watched ophthalmologist and various surgeons.
As time progressed, my interest continued to sway towards finance. I was putting in hours a week outside of school and wanting to revisit various readings, models, and news that I was consuming to keep up with the markets. This is where I have followed my passion.
Takeaway: Your model should inspire you in certain aspects of your life based on how they act.
