Abbie is actually from a setting called the Underseas, where most of the Underdark is ocean and thereās pirates on steamships. It takes place a few thousand years after the Illithid fled to the Material Plane and entered in to a political alliance with the Drow, forming the nation currently known as the Collective. In order to cooperate harmoniously, slavery has been outlawed and through living with each other, both cultures have had to adapt. Illithid are now more independent and not as much of a hivemind, with significantly weakened psionic abilities. They have rigid social roles and you are expected to fill your assigned role, something Abbie was never comfortable in so they ran off at 9 (illithids are mature adults at 10) toĀ join a pirate crew and has never looked back.I sporadically post about it over on @tales-from-the-underseas if youāre interested!
