Pairing: ji changmin x reader
Summary: “I need you to say it.”
“I’m late, I’m late. I am so late!”
You ran through the hallways with your backpack halfway open, which is surprising that nothing flew out on your way over here. Your arms full of papers, and books. Your hair a mess, strands sticking up in every which way.
But none of that mattered when you were late for your meet up with your student president. You wouldn’t have this much nervousness had he not been a slavedriver, or a stern lecturer. You had already heard the same lecture of being late too many times that you think you would know better than to test his patience, but you didn’t. You just couldn’t resist spending a little bit more time watching your anime rather than being with your student president.
“Y/N! There you are! I’ve been looking for you everywhere,” Kevin let out a sigh of relief when he saw you. Your eyes darted to your watch, and you had to hold in your discontentment at being stopped.
Nonetheless, you were happy to see your friend as he came jogging over to you. You felt awful that you were the reason why he was sweaty, and panting to catch his breath.
“What’s up, Kevin? Did you need me for something?” You asked, jogging in place. You were already so far into this whole running thing, might as well keep it up. “I’m kind of late so-”
“Don’t worry, I won’t keep you long. I’m just here to tell you that Changmin needs to talk to you.”
“Eh?” You immediately froze in your spot.
“Yeah. He said it was urgent, so meet up with him after your meeting.”
“What?” So many negative thoughts of what it could possibly be rushed through your mind. Forget about being late, this was more important.
“Well, the message was delivered, so I have to go now!”
“W-Wait, Kevin!” You called after him, but it was no use. He was too far away to be called back. That, or he ignored you. You let out a frustrated groan. What were you to do now?
The ringing of your phone pulled you out of your dilemma, and you pulled it out to see it was New calling. You gulped, checking the time. You were dead toast now.
You let out a yell as you darted for the student council room. “LATE. I AM LATE.”
Once you reached the door, you took a deep breath to face New’s wrath. You slowly pushed open the door, making sure not to make any sounds. You tiptoed inside, and closed it behind you. You thought you were in the clear when you heard his voice.
“You’re late.” New crossed his arms after spinning around in his chair to face you, making you wince.
“Busted,” Juyeon laughed, and you shot him a glare. Which only amused him.
“Shut up, Juyeon.” You grunted, going to your seat beside his. You avoided eye contact with New, and started pulling out your papers.
Hours passed as the three of you did your work. Hyunjae was meant to be here, but was excused by New for who knows what reason. But he was an efficient secretary, so he was going to finish his work by the next meeting.
“There, I finished.” You handed New the last of the papers that needed to be checked over. He looked up from his own sheet of paper, and grabbed it from your hands. You stood up straight, and tall as if you were being punished for something you didn’t do. He glanced it over, then nodded.
“It looks good. You’re dismissed.”
You let out a sigh of relief. New was so strict about how he wanted things, which caused you to do things over and over until he was satisfied. Thankfully, you did a well enough job to even get by the first time.
“Thank-” You stopped, mouth hanging half open. You were so immersed in your vice president duties that you forgot what came after when you were done.
Sensing that you were still there, New raised an eyebrow, curious as to why you were standing like that, and why you haven’t yet left his sight.
“Oi. What are you doing standing there like an idiot for?”
“Can I um. Get more work? Or if there’s anything you need to get done, I can-”
“Stop, you’re weirding me out.” New shuddered at this new profound you.
“Y/N, you actually want more work?” Even Juyeon had doubts about this new you.
You shrugged. “If there’s more work that needs to be completed, I can do it now.”
“But you never want to do more work than needed.”
“What? Isn’t that just the truth?”
“All right, the both of you,” New broke up the fight, then turned to you. “While I’m glad you want more work, we completed it all. Whatever it is you’re worrying about Changmin, that’s your problem.”
“How’d you know it was about Changmin?”
“We’re friends, aren’t we?” How could you forget the two of them were friends?
“Then, can I stay in here?” You opted to beg your president.
“Nope.” New kicked the both of you out before locking the door behind him. He nodded to the door, and Juyeon waved goodbye to you, then joined him. You let out a defeated sigh, leaning your forehead against the door.
Your ears perked up at the voice while your eyes widened. You didn’t dare look because you didn’t want to confirm it was him.
“Changmin, hey.” You awkwardly stepped away from the door, and faced him. He gave you a smile. “What are you doing here? I thought I was supposed to meet up with you?”
“I ran into New, and Juyeon on their way out, and they told me you’d be here.”
He nodded. You nervously laughed, eyes darting around for an escape.
“Oh, would you look at that time! I think I have to get going now, bye!”
You took off, leaving behind a taken back Changmin. He shook it off, and quickly ran after you. It already took everything for him to talk to you today, he couldn’t lose you like this. Not when he could lose his confidence any moment now.
“Why are you chasing after me?” You whined. While you were the most unathletic person out there, you were able to keep your distance from Changmin. Though, you don’t know how long you could keep this up with his stamina.
“Because I have to talk to you!”
You groaned, and picked up your pace. You didn’t want to hear whatever it was he had to say. You just had this gut feeling in your stomach that yelled danger.
The two of you ran throughout the campus, dodging obstacles in your way. You couldn’t stop now, not after all this. You couldn’t give up.
“Caught you!” Changmin beamed, finally catching your wrist after the long chase. He hadn’t expected to do that much exercise today, but here he was.
“You caught me,” You weakly laughed, and faced him. His eyebrows furrowed. Why were you avoiding him?
“Did I do something wrong?”
“Then, why do you keep running away from me?” The dejected look on his face crushed your heart, and you felt awful. You let a sigh, and shook your head.
“I am. When Kevin told me you were looking for me to tell me something important, I panicked. I couldn’t handle whatever it was, so I got nervous and took off.”
“Hey!” You whined as he tried to hold back his laughter.
“I’m sorry, but that’s adorable.”
He chuckled, and shook his head. “You really didn’t have anything to worry about, Y/N.”
“T-Then, what’s this super duper important thing you had to tell me?”
He leaned close with that adorable smile of his.
“That’s me,” You shyly mumbled.
Your eyes widened. Your breath hitched in your throat, but because you sucked in too much air and spit, you started choking. He patted your back to help.
“What did you just say?” You rasped, making him giggle.
“I. Like. You.” He repeated once more to confirm that you heard it right the first time. “In a way partners do, not how friends do.”
“Huh.” You stood up straight. “That’s what I thought you said, but I wasn’t sure.”
Amusement twinkled in his eyes.
You sighed, and placed your hands on your hips.
“Well, if you can’t tell from my idiocracy around you, then I don’t know what will do it.”
He rolled his eyes, and smiled. He grabbed your wrist, and pulled you close in one swift motion. He was smooth, but you didn’t know he was this charming. You stared at him with your mouth agape, and your words caught in your throat.
“Y/N, I need you to say it. I want to hear it. Tell me you like me too.”
You let out a squeak. You could feel your cheeks growing hot by the intense look in his eyes.
“I-I like you, Changmin. Very much so.” You managed to get out, making him softly smile.
“Just what I wanted to hear.”
Then, he pulled you in for a passionate, and sweet kiss. Which made you weak in the knees. You let out a weird but pleased sound, still in a daze.
“I am so glad I finally said it.”
