microfic for @xeme-starx - prompt: jarty healing after a fight
“I don’t know Ev,” Barty groaned into his phone, smacking his palm against the rough wall outside his apartment, “I know I fucked up but what do I do?” he cursed, clicking his tongue against the back of his teeth.
He only half listened as Evan talked to him through the phone. Eventually he hung up while Evan was mid-sentence and stalked his way back to the apartment building.
He shouldered his way into the door and cursed when he realized it was not a push door. He grabbed the handle and flung it open. He felt the irritation in his bones radiate as he clicked the button on the elevator and glared at how slow it was.
When he slammed open the door of his apartment and saw James, a duffel in hand, all of the anger inside Barty dissipated. It vanished into nothingness.
“What… what are you doing?” Barty’s voice was small as he spoke. He felt like a child.
James looked at him, biting his lip in the way Barty hated. James held his bag like a savior in his hand, gripped tight to the handle. Barty stepped forward quickly, he didn’t take time to be gentle. He could not handle James leaving.
His hand cupped James’s cheek, rough fingers but gentle touch. He looked into the warm brown hesitant eyes and pressed their foreheads together. He grabbed his bag from James’s hand in a start and threw it across the room.
James’s breath caught and his features twisted into an unreadable expression, “Barty… I…”
James didn’t know what to say, his eyes flicked to the bag strewn on the floor and the look in Barty’s eyes. Barty’s hands slipped to grasp James’s waist and pulled him in closer to him.
Barty placed his head into the crook of James’s shoulder and a vulnerable whisper escaped from his lips, “Please James, I love you,” he murmured against James’s skin.
James tentatively reached a hand to brush Barty’s hair as his fingers carded through the curls. The unspoken apology fell in the lack of space between them and the calm expanded.
James didn’t think he ever wanted to leave Barty, no matter how many fights they had. This was his boy.
Barty looked up to meet James’s eyes and captured his lips in a heated kiss, an expression of all the love he didn’t know how to express. James smiled into his lips.
