jarty mechanic au. bartys a ratty mechanic somewhere downtown and james was recommended barty's shop by someone (im thinking marlene, whos ays this begrudgingly) after his car kept breaking down so he decides to give it a try because why not? barty keeps insulting james' car, in a joking-but-not-really way. james is lowk pissed, and starts insulting barty's looks. they both find each other (frustratingly enough) hot.

I’m never going to get over my hc that James Peter and Barty were all really close as kids, but specifically James and Barty. They were both chaotic and energetic, Barty loved Effie and Monty and he spent as much time as he could at the Potter’s. Then James went off to Hogwarts and met Sirius, barely wrote to Barty the whole year, and then got home only to spend the whole summer talking about his new friends. Barty, who had just spent the last several months either being yelled at by his father or completely ignored without his only friends was, understandably, pissed. But he was still holding out hope. When he gets to Hogwarts he ends up in Ravenclaw and quickly discovers James has no room for him in his exciting new life. So when Barty first meets Sirius’ little brother he hates his guts, until he realizes Regulus is just like him, he was abandoned too.
