Character Moodboards for @jacobstoneâs Elemental!Librarians AU:
AU where Elementals exist and are sought out for their power but they move hosts every few decades and Flynn has been a Librarian for ten years but also the host of the element Fire. He meets Eve and the same day she becomes the host of Water, and receives her letter for the Library. They go after Cassandra, Ezekiel, and Jacob who also recently become the hosts of Wind, Lightning, and Earth respectively.
Description: So @jacobstone asked me to write a fic based off their prompt which you can find by clicking here in this general area. It was such a good post and I just could not resist!! I love delving deeper into this whole Magic Deal thing between Cassandra and Jacob. I really hope yâall enjoy! also bad title is bad, lmao sorry guys
Cassandra watched in glee as the crystal lifted from the ice block and rose, and rose, and rose until it was gone in a blur, shooting off to the side. She didnât know where it was or what had happened to it until she saw Jacob, standing near the exit to the cave, fly backwards and collide with the wall behind him. She screamed.
âJacob!â
She raced over to him and crouched down next to him, hands patting uselessly at his chest, trying to find the wound that her brain was already going into overdrive with ways to fix. She was thinking of spells she knew, artifacts she could quickly get her hands on back at home, and just simple, everyday medical procedures she remembered from her days in the hospital, both as a patient and a worker.
When she quickly realized there was no gaping hole in his chest, Cassandra leaned away from him with a frown as he peeled himself away from the wall, rubbing the back of his head where he had smacked it.
âI donâtâŠI donât understand. What happened?â Cassandra stammered. âWhere did the-?â
Then Jacobâs chest began to glow, barely visible beneath his heavy jacket, but still there. Cassandraâs mouth popped open in surprise as Jacobâs eyes widened, and he began to hit at his chest. âNo, no, no, no, no! Do not tell me that damn thing is inside of me.â He met Cassandraâs eyes. âCassie, tell me a magical crystal did not just embed itself inside my chest!â
Cassandra shook her head, completely unable to lie to him. âI-I donât think I can.â
âGet it out!â He was nearly shouting now, grabbing her hands in a tight grip in an almost pleading gesture. âGet it out! What is it going to do? You can get it out, right?â
Cassandraâs mouth opened and closed quickly, but she was unable to answer. âI-I donât know, m-maybe Jenkins-?â
âThen letâs go,â Jacob snapped, getting to his feet. He began to pick up his supplies, bunching them up underneath his arm. Cassandra could just barely see the way his hands were shaking. A bruise was blossoming on his cheek; sheâd nearly forgotten about the man whoâd attacked them.
She raced over to him and grabbed his arm, bringing him to a halt. He was breathing harshly, shoulders rising and falling with each breath. âJacob, you need to stop and think. What about the blizzard? What about that man; what happened to him?â
Jacob shrugged her off him, heading towards the exit. âHeâs gone. We donât need to worry about him. And the storm will be fine; weâve been through worse.â
Cassandra watched helplessly as he disappeared from her sight. She sighed, grabbing her book from the ice tomb, and followed him out into the storm.
~~~
âLook, there!â Jacob shouted over the howling wind. He lifted up his arm, pointing out ahead of them. Cassandra could barely make out a tall cabin structure through the white sheet of snow that was falling all around them. âLetâs get over there! Maybe they have a phone we can use to call Jenkins.â
Cassandra followed his lead, crossing her arms tightly over her chest.
When they reached the cabin, they pushed through the front doors and began to shed their winter clothes, hanging them politely. Ahead of them, Cassandra could hear loud voices and even some crashing sounds. She glanced at Jacob, a little worried.
He didnât look back and instead said, âCâmon, letâs just get the hell outta here as quick as possible.â
Cassandra sighed and followed him. She kept the goggles with her, fiddling with them in her hands. When they exited the front hall and into the main part of the lodge, she lifted them to her eyes, glancing around, and then nearly screamed. Instead, she held her tongue and stumbled backwards, catching Jacobâs arm with her hand.
He sighed, frustrated. âWhat is it?â
Cassandra shoved the goggles onto his face. She expected him to pull back just as startled as she was, but instead, he just pushed them away from his face. She smacked him on the arm. âCome on, we need to get out of here! These are monsters! Theyâre probably going to kill us.â
Jacob snorted, but he had a dangerous look in his eyes - a reckless look. He glacned at her. âBut maybe they can help get this damn thing out of my chest. Theyâre obviously here for a reason; maybe this thing is that reason. They could help me.â
Cassandraâs eyes were wide, and when she spoke, she could barely get her words out. âW-What are - are you insane? I-I canât believe - why would you - I can help you!â
Jacob scoffed. âSure. Just like you got the crystal out, right?â He stepped away from her. âIâll take my chances with the messed-up faces over here.â He raised his hands and cupped them over his mouth, taking a deep breath. âDoes anybody here know how to extract a-!â
He was cut off by Cassandraâs hand slapping over his mouth. She laughed awkwardly at the people who Jacob had attracted the attention of and shrugged helplessly at them. A majority of them were narrowing their eyes at them with suspicious faces.
Cassandra latched onto the back of Jacobâs shirt and tugged him away from all the people. She opened the nearest door she found and threw him into it, closing it behind her as she followed him in. She looked around at the cramped coat closet in distaste; it would have to do.
She began slapping Jacob on the arm and chest. âAre you insane?! What were you thinking? Those are monsters out there, Jacob! You could have gotten us killed!â
âLike you almost got me killed!â Jacob yelled back at her. He ran a hand through his hair in frustration, pulling tightly and messing it up.
âThatâs not fair, and you know it!â Cassandra snapped. âIt was an accident, okay?â
âThatâs the point!â Jacob was pacing now in the cramped space, leaving Cassandra no choice but to press herself up against the door. âYou used magic, and it ended in an accident. What wouldâve happened had it been worse? What if it had impaled me instead of just being absorbed into me? What would you have done, huh Cass? Câmon, enlighten me!â
Cassandra crossed her arms over her chest, chewing on her lip. She shook her head sharply. âStop it. Youâre not being fair.â
âWhen has this job ever been fair?â Jacob said, turning towards her. He didnât advance on her but instead kept his distance, short and sharp breaths conveying just how angry he was. âWhen has life ever been fair?â
âWhat do you know about unfair life?!â Cassandra snapped. She stepped towards him, almost close enough that they were brushing up against each other. Now her own breaths were starting to match his, quick and angry. âDonât sit there and pretend you know my life! Donât sit there and pretend my life has been easy up until now! You always get so mad, and you never listen; now you need to listen.â
âFine,â Jacob said, nodding to her. âIâm listening.â
Cassandra huffed in frustration, stepping away from him. âYou donât even get it, do you? You donât you even understand why magic is so important to me.â
Jacob rolled his eyes, leaning back against the coats and jackets behind him. âOf course I do, Cassie. Youâre a scientist; the unknown is your playground. But you donât understand how dangerous it is; you donât understand what it can do-.â
âI know what it can do!â Cassandra yelled, voice going a little shrill. âYou donât understand how much I know what it can do! Do you want to know what it can do?â She paused, but he didnât say anything, waiting. âIt can cure me! It can save me!â
Jacobâs eyes suddenly darted to the ground, guilty. His shoulders slumped, and he exhaled deeply.
Cassandra sighed. âLook, I know I donât talk about it much, and thatâs okay. I donât want it to be my defining feature butâŠitâs still there, you know? Iâve been looking for a cure since we got here, andâŠIâm still looking for one. Magic is dangerous, I know, but magic is also beautiful, and powerful, andâŠwell, saving. It saves every person we ever have, Jake. And I thoughtâŠwell, maybe it would save me too?â
âCassie, I-.â He paused, obviously thinking. She watched him rub self-consciously at his chest.
âLook,â Cassandra said before he could pull his thoughts together, âIâm not standing here and telling you this to make you feel guilty. I just wanted you to know because you deserve to.â
He sighed but slowly nodded his head. âI knowâŠthank you.â He rubbed the back of his neck, still not meeting her eyes. âI-Iâm sorry. I shouldnât haveâŠyou donât deserve me yellinâ at you. Itâs just, this stuffâŠit scares me. Probably more than Iâd actually like to admit. When you do this kind of stuff, Iâm just so afraid youâre gonna hurt yourself. I donât want to see that happen.â
âIâm scared of that too,â Cassandra admitted. âSome of the stuff magic can do, it really is terrifying. But itâs no different than when you step in front of us to protect us; itâs no different than when you draw away a bad guy or take a punch. It looks different on the outside, yeah, but itâs not. Iâm just trying to help in the way I know I can.â
Slowly, Jacob nodded. âIâŠI understand.â He shook his head and finally glanced up at her. âIâm sorry.â
Cassandra shrugged, stepping up to him. She pulled him into a hug, feeling his obvious surprise. He was quick to remedy it as he threw an awkward arm back around her. âItâs okay.â She murmured. She laughed a little, a bit rueful. âI just kinda wish we wouldâve hashed this out sooner.â
Jacob nodded, his chin bumping the top of her head lightly. âYeah, me too.â
They stood there for a few more moments until Cassandra pulled back. She glanced up at him to find him much more relaxed than earlier. The dangerous look was out of his eyes, replaced with a determined one. âAlright, you ready to leave?â
Cassandra nodded. âYep.â She then bit her lip. âAnd how do you propose we do that?â
âUh,â Jacob said, ânot sure. To be honest, I was gonna ask for your input. Iâve got nothinâ.â
âWell,â Cassandra said, wringing out her hands in front of her, âI might have somethingâŠbut it involves magic.â
Jacob looked unsure for half a second, but it quickly cleared. He nodded. âAlright.â He grinned at her a little bit. âI trust ya, Cassie.â
And then theyâd stepped out of the room and a nearby monster whoâd been talking to his friend had said the words, âI canât wait to see the Angrboda Crystal again!â and then Jacobâs chest had lit up like a clear summer night on the fourth of July.
The monsters had quickly deduced they were âunfavorablesâ and began chasing them around the hotel as Cassandra worked on chanting a homing spell for the Backdoor. Sheâd eventually gotten a passageway to open up in the elevator as Jacob wrenched the doors apart. They looked down into the abyss, seeing a slight shimmer at the bottom.
Cassandra glanced at Jacob, hand extended. âTrust me?â
He grinned at her, having to shout over the angry yells of the monsters charging towards them. âAlways!â
And they jumped.
And fell into the Library to find Eve beginning to strap goggles over her eyes, Jenkins standing next to the Globe, and Ezekiel with a confused look on his face and a giant, blue egg in his hands. Cassandra caught her breath first and yelled, âClose the door! Close it, close it, close it!â
Jenkins rushed to close the door, as Jacob and Cassandra slumped to the ground, both breathing heavily from the running and adrenaline.
Eve was frowning at them. âWe were just about to come get you.â
âAppreciate it,â Jacob muttered, still trying in vain to catch his breath.
âHowâd it go?â Ezekiel asked cheerfully, walking over to look down at them.
Jacob glanced at Cassandra and met her eyes. She grinned at him, and he nodded. âGood. Really good.â
Cassandra reached over and squeezed his hand. âGood trust-building exercise, for sure.â
âAnd what of the crystal?â Jenkins asked.
âOh, yeah, itâs currently lodged in Jacobâs chest,â Cassandra said, shrugging.
âWhat?!â Three different voices shouted at her, but it didnât matter because Jacob was laughing.
The Rise of the Librarians - Summary (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/1364980066-the-rise-of-the-librarians-summary?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_reading&wp_uname=SarahRCubitt13&wp_originator=96HkAv5GxknKrzcML4uBq2pIGR0bn9t78pgOuBO%2Fca5G7D8jAdhKQubSP8cuvwez%2FcmRkNBfu3J6hYcSX9kx7XzYoVB3ecd7rv1dbt3CXCNqFOXgxsuLtrtMACwHZmLB Elizabeth Carter knows what a life of magic is like - her dad is The Librarian, after all, not that she's spoken to him in over five years. In fact, she has gone out of her way to make sure she's a well-known, established archaeologist in her own right, moving on from her fantastical past and focusing on establishing a future that's fixed in the real and the solid. That is until someone tries to kill her and her new friends, and suddenly, she's thrust back into a world of magic and the world of The Library once again. She also has to come face to face with her father and the rocky relationship they have. She is not alone, however, as someone is killing off potential Librarians, so there are 4 of them pulled into the madness of The Library. Who knew saving the world once a week, twice before a Friday is even over, would be so complicated?
I feel like weâve gotten to know Stone quite a bit up to this point, but this is the first time we get a more in depth look at where he came from. Itâs interesting because we only really got a look at where Flynn and Jake come from. Not to much depth on Eve, Cassie, and Ezekiel yet. Basic stuff for Eve and Cassie as it is really all that we need considering it was all very normal and uneventful, other than Cassandraâs brain grape where it all went to crap.Â
Whoâs up for movies? Ezekiel, yes, just yes. I would love to have a movie marathon with you.Â
Jenkins, saying not to leave Ezekiel alone in Oklahoma unless they want a disaster...man he is a Librarian too.Â
I do think Eve and Jenkins are unintentionally funny. This episode specifically.Â
Poltergeists. Boy was so ready to go get the ghost. âExcept me. I never lie.â Ezekiel was so honest with everyone from the beginning and they still took sooooo long to trust him. He was so confused all the way up to the reveal of Stoneâs dad. Then he and Cassandra were torn between confused, shocked, and curious. The playful back and forth between the âsiblingsâ was hilarious.Â
I think we all hate Isaac Stone after this. He is truly a grade A bad dad. Havenât disliked a character this much since Umbridge.Â
Ezekiel just perfectly comfy in the back of the truck riding through the protesters nodding along like, yeah, you guys are right.Â
Jake really should have just come clean instead of letting his dad belittle him and talk down to him in front of other people and his team. Heâs lucky Cassie or Ezekiel didnât snap at him. Ezekiel may not be fond of Stone at that point, but he made faces at the way his dad talked to him as well.Â
It was kind of touching the way Stone was making sure Ezekiel knew he was there to back him up. That he wasnât just sending him in on his own.Â
Ezekiel skipping rocks while Cassandra gossips with Jenkins and Baird was adorable. Also, wait just a second! The thing took Cassandraâs shape, meaning there was some lie(s) she hadnât come clean to yet. It even takes Jakeâs shape later. But it only takes Jonesâ shape once when itâs fighting Stone. But again, he mostly hides his stuff, doesnât so much lie as avoid telling the truth if he can.Â
Ezekiel eating popcorn as Jenkins gives the rundown? Total mood. What villain did that? Stay on point. Look Jenkins, his interest is piqued. Zeke looks far too happy to see Jenkins broken nose photo. Boy also had a point on if it feeds on lies, why not head for a political center like DC. Oh we donât have those anymore. Ezekiel keeping up on if there are actually still cartoons or not. Cassandra and Ezekiel are probably my favorite duo. Proud and Sad, their babies are all grown up.Â
Why do I hate this room? Because itâs a cage. Makes sense, Ezekiel, who has never been caught, is freaked out by the idea of being stuck in a cage. And again at someone or thing looking like him. I feel like thereâs more to that reaction than we got and Iâd have loved to have explored that more.Â
I donât have any lies. Do I sound like a Yank? I was recruited to MI6 after my first big score. Ezekiel Jones stole for Her Majestyâs Secret Service. Iâm not proud of it. There is soooo much there that could be gone into more depth and we were cheated! There should have been more on that.Â
Jake coming clean to his dad. I really wish that whole outburst wasnât wasted on a trickster. He deserved to let that all out at his dad for real. I also think that if he had said all of that to his dad, he would not have been proud (which Stone knew), but he would not believe him at all. The trickster knew what he said was the truth, but Isaac Stone would never.Â
Ezekiel did not have to tell them why he didnât stay with them after Peru. He didnât really choose to leave them. Stone chased him away and Cassie wanted to be on her own. He went his own way because he had to and itâs always been how he survived and thrived.Â
Team functioning again? Worked out all of your issues? Ezekiel just looked at Jake and Cassandra to see if they said yes.Â
It was a good episode, but it really did just make me wish we got one that went more into Ezekielâs background from his thieving days a bit more.Â
