Publisher's Weekly described well-known children's poet Jack Prelutsky's "Awful Ogre's Awful Day" (2000) as, "a divinely wretched celebration of subversity. Every detail of Awful Ogre's day offers possibility for gross-outs..." And that pretty much sums up the massive kid-appeal of this book! While Paul Zelinsky keeps the illustrations rather subtle (though full of entertaining detail), the language is over-the-top and grotesquely, hilariously expressive.
