Because I've gotten questions and comments about it, Blanche does have shoes and they used to make some that fit for cloven hooves! They were for oxen that pull, not used much nowadays. Most cloven-hooved animals like cows don't need shoes because they're on soft surfaces like grass, not pulling loads, and usually get regular hoof trims. But Blanche does need them because she's constantly on her feet moving around, hauling stuff, and she walks on hard surfaces such as stone. Later on, Dammon makes some for her when she needs a replacement - he has oxen, so I think he'd be able and willing to make some for her and fit them to her hooves.
