Layne sighed impatiently as he stood in PattyCake's dressing area and waited for Geoff to answer his phone. Everyone else had already arrived for filming, and they had a tight schedule. They didn't have time for--

Geoff finally picked up, sounding distracted. "Yo Layne. What's up?"

"Where the hell are you?"

"At home, polishing my rocks. Why?"

Layne stopped, his mind immediately going to the worst possible interpretation. "Ah...well then...um, how long until you're done?"

Geoff's voice was still distracted. "A while."

"Oh. Well, remember we're filming today, so you'll have to pop by sometime."

"Sure." Geoff hung up.

Layne stared at the phone, then walked into the staging area where everyone else was already in costume and waiting. "Geoff'll be a while. He's, um, polishing his rocks."

He could see everyone else knew what he meant. J huffed a laugh. "Not shy about it is he?"

Eli frowned, annoyed. "Now what?"

"We film around him," Layne shrugged. "He'll be here eventually. Let's get to work."

It was a little over two hours later when Geoff walked in, humming to himself a little. "Hey guys. Sorry I'm late."

"No problem," Eli said.

J grinned as he looked at Geoff. "Have fun polishing your rocks?"

Geoff grinned back. "Sure did. I got pictures. Wanna see?"

"No," Eli, Layne, and J said, and J dramatically covered his eyes.

Cesar stepped to Geoff's side. "Sure!" Geoff showed him his phone, and disappointment flashed across Cesar's face for the briefest second before his eyes lit up. "Aw! They're cute!"

Geoff chuckles. "That one I found a yard sale while Kathy and I were getting that red chair I used in Big Iron. And that one was in her grandmother's attic when we were getting her dressmaker's dummy."

Eli, Layne, and J looked at each other, and then finally walked over and looked at Geoff's phone. Geoff swiped to another picture, and they saw shiny rocks of all shapes and colors, polished to their full brightness and sitting carefully arranged in a case.

Layne had the decency to look ashamed as Eli and J's eyes went to him. Geoff gave them all a quizzical look. "What did you think I was doing?"

But there was one spooky one that I DID read. And I decided to make a moodboard for it. I’m probably gonna be doing that for a lot of the VoicePlay fics on there in the future, actually.

Anyway, here is my first fan-moodboard for a VoicePlay fic! And a particularly spooky one at that.

The story, “beetleJuice... or is it really?”, is by @whoopsididitdarker, who seems to be fairly new on the fanfic scene. The fic itself is like, crazy intense, especially in the first chapter, but the third one is no slacker either (with extra OUCH, like right in the freaking heart kinda ouch - there’s a good bit of that in here, by the way). But then the second one is just... kinda nice, actually? Like, the person is saying they write mostly whump and angst, but that one chapter is mainly just fluff and funny stuff. There’s evidently going to be a fourth chapter to finish it out, but it doesn’t seem to be out yet.

The fic is based on that one section of Aca Top 10 Movie Themes, where they do the theme of Beetlejuice. Like, specifically on that, not really on the movie. Here, I’ll provide you the context.

(The bit itself is from 0:34 to 0:48, by the way).

In short, scary but not violent, teeny bit of very mild language, but otherwise good. Also, Layne is a good dad and J is a good friend. I’m hoping the ending is nice, because I think they both deserve a good rest.

I guess this is my spooky content for the month. Goodness, I’ve been busy. But I’m glad I got a little out at least. And I’m definitely going to make moodboards for more fics like this! This was fun!
