I can still remember life in the BC era: Before Computers. The phone was a rotary landline. The Atari 2600 was once state of the art, and could be played on a black and white TV. You needed two keys to work a car, the window had manual controls, and no one blinked if you didn't wear a seatbelt. I remember what "Be kind, rewind" meant. My first albums were vinyl. My first computer had a 300 MB hard drive. Before that I used a typewriter. I had to research papers before Google and the internet was not considered a reliable source. I've made long-distance trips with paper maps and prayers.
I'm old. Sometimes I've gone through life kicking and screaming. But I've made it. And let me tell you it's been a trip.

I was going for a Mortal Kombat vibe. According to VoicePlay's Discord, I failed.

"My husband complains about the cold," the man said. "Can you teach me a spell to keep him warm?"
"I can teach you to bind hair into a net to catch heat," the wizard said, "using arcane counting and a pair of fine wands."
After a while, the man said "Isn't this knitting?"
"This, too, is magic."
In the immortal words of Terry Pratchett, it doesnât stop being magic just because you know how itâs done.
Crocheting works too, and you only need one wand.

I haven't been very active here lately. I feel like my creativity has dried up.
Hi Rose, I hope you're doing OK today.
I'm Mary, and you may have noticed I've been frantically "liking" all of your Voiceplay/Geoff Castellucci posts... I'm new to the fandom and jumping in head-first (It was the fever dream that is "Classical Chaos" that got me hooked, and that led me on to all the other goodness if you're interested.) Do you have the full version and/or posts in order for your Kidnapped fic, please? I'm having difficulty navigating Tumblr's layout and I MUST HAVE IT! Many thanks. Keep up the good work.
If you're talking about the one with Geoff's grandfather, I haven't finished that one yet. I posted the other one on AO3, I hope the link works.

Geoff likes shiny rocks... that's all
Layne sighed impatiently as he stood in PattyCake's dressing area and waited for Geoff to answer his phone. Everyone else had already arrived for filming, and they had a tight schedule. They didn't have time for--
Geoff finally picked up, sounding distracted. "Yo Layne. What's up?"
"Where the hell are you?"
"At home, polishing my rocks. Why?"
Layne stopped, his mind immediately going to the worst possible interpretation. "Ah...well then...um, how long until you're done?"
Geoff's voice was still distracted. "A while."
"Oh. Well, remember we're filming today, so you'll have to pop by sometime."
"Sure." Geoff hung up.
Layne stared at the phone, then walked into the staging area where everyone else was already in costume and waiting. "Geoff'll be a while. He's, um, polishing his rocks."
He could see everyone else knew what he meant. J huffed a laugh. "Not shy about it is he?"
Eli frowned, annoyed. "Now what?"
"We film around him," Layne shrugged. "He'll be here eventually. Let's get to work."
***
It was a little over two hours later when Geoff walked in, humming to himself a little. "Hey guys. Sorry I'm late."
"No problem," Eli said.
J grinned as he looked at Geoff. "Have fun polishing your rocks?"
Geoff grinned back. "Sure did. I got pictures. Wanna see?"
"No," Eli, Layne, and J said, and J dramatically covered his eyes.
Cesar stepped to Geoff's side. "Sure!" Geoff showed him his phone, and disappointment flashed across Cesar's face for the briefest second before his eyes lit up. "Aw! They're cute!"
Geoff chuckles. "That one I found a yard sale while Kathy and I were getting that red chair I used in Big Iron. And that one was in her grandmother's attic when we were getting her dressmaker's dummy."
Eli, Layne, and J looked at each other, and then finally walked over and looked at Geoff's phone. Geoff swiped to another picture, and they saw shiny rocks of all shapes and colors, polished to their full brightness and sitting carefully arranged in a case.
Layne had the decency to look ashamed as Eli and J's eyes went to him. Geoff gave them all a quizzical look. "What did you think I was doing?"
Eli sighed. "Never mind. You're better off not knowing...let's just get you in costume. We've got work to do."

I hate when people ask me how long it took me to crochet something Iâve made. Frankly, thatâs none of my business. I put the yarn on the hook and worked on it whenever the spirit happened to take me to and then one day it was done. How long that process took is between the yarn and god; I want no part of it.

I keep a nice rock at my desk at work.
It's small, blue and kinda shiny.
That's all I know.
What would happen if a spoilt brat stamped on geoffs tail? (Cat!Geoff au)
(Assuming half-cat, half-human Geoff)
Kathy bit back irritation as she and Geoff waited in line to check out at the grocery store, her eyes aimlessly wandering the racks of magazines and candy. Geoff stood just behind her, his tail swishing impatiently and his ears twitching as he followed the conversations around him.
She nearly jumped out of her skin when Geoff yowled in pain. When she turned around Geoff had turned to face a blond woman with a Karen haircut, who was clutching her maybe ten-year-old daughter to her. Geoff's hands were raised with claws out and ears were flat against his head as he bared his fangs and yowled again, starting high and then sliding down into the depths of his chest to growl.
Kathy finally found her voice. "What happened?"
Geoff snarled. "That brat stomped on my tail!"
Karen blinked. "It was an accident!"
A new voice cut in from the next line over. "No, it wasn't! I saw it! She deliberately stamped on him!"
Karen turned to the newcomer. "Mind your own business!"
Kathy stepped forward. "Maybe we should call the police and have your kid arrested for assault."
The girl paled as Karen's eyes went wide with indignation. "Call the police? On a child? Over a little accident!"
Geoff took a step toward them, his now-bushy tail snapping angrily back and forth. His voice was a deep growl that even made Kathy's heart falter. "Maybe it would teach your crotch fruit to keep its feet to itself."
Karen looked at Geoff, then Kathy, then around at the crowd. Everyone was staring at her in disgust and disbelief, even the cashiers. With a huff she grabbed her daughter's arm and stormed off, muttering something under her breath.
Kathy put her hand on Geoff's arm. "Are you okay?"
"I think so." He sheathed his claws. "Stupid brat."
She smiled as the store noises started back up. "Don't let them get to you. We'll be home soon."
Geoff nodded. Kathy patted his arm again. She was sure that once they got home she would be able to make him feel better with some ear scratches and cuddle time.

I'm glad you specified. I wouldn't have guessed spider.

Trump order allows VA staff to decline providing healthcare to patients based on political affiliation or marital status
Tell me again how both sides are equally bad.
The new rules, obtained by the Guardian, also apply to psychologists, dentists and a host of other occupations. They have already gone into effect in at least some VA medical centers.
Medical staff are still required to treat veterans regardless of race, color, religion and sex, and all veterans remain entitled to treatment. But individual workers are now free to decline to care for patients based on personal characteristics not explicitly prohibited by federal law.
Language requiring healthcare professionals to care for veterans regardless of their politics and marital status has been explicitly eliminated.
Doctors and other medical staff can also be barred from working at VA hospitals based on their marital status, political party affiliation or union activity, documents reviewed by the Guardian show. The changes also affect chiropractors, certified nurse practitioners, optometrists, podiatrists, licensed clinical social workers and speech therapists.
In making the changes, VA officials cite the presidentâs 30 January executive order titled âDefending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Governmentâ. The primary purpose of the executive order was to strip most government protections from transgender people. The VA has since ceased providing most gender-affirming care and forbidden a long list of words, including âgender affirmingâ and âtransgenderâ, from clinical settings.
Medical experts said the implications of rule changes uncovered by the Guardian could be far-reaching.
They âseem to open the door to discrimination on the basis of anything that is not legally protectedâ, said Dr Kenneth Kizer, the VAâs top healthcare official during the Clinton administration. He said the changes open up the possibility that doctors could refuse to treat veterans based on their âreason for seeking care â including allegations of rape and sexual assault â current or past political party affiliation or political activity, and personal behavior such as alcohol or marijuana useâ.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is the nationâs largest integrated hospital system, with more than 170 hospitals and more than 1,000 clinics. It employs 26,000 doctors and serves 9 million patients annually.
In an emailed response to questions, the VA press secretary, Peter Kasperowicz, did not dispute that the new rules allowed doctors to refuse to treat veteran patients based on their beliefs or that physicians could be dismissed based on their marital status or political affiliation, but said âall eligible veterans will always be welcome at VA and will always receive the benefits and services theyâve earned under the lawâ.
He said the rule changes were nothing more than âa formalityâ, but confirmed that they were made to comply with Trumpâs executive order. Kasperowicz also said the revisions were necessary to âensure VA policy comports with federal lawâ. He did not say which federal law or laws required these changes.
Until the recent changes, VA hospitalsâ bylaws said that medical staff could not discriminate against patients âon the basis of race, age, color, sex, religion, national origin, politics, marital status or disability in any employment matterâ. Now, several of those items â including ânational origin,â âpoliticsâ and âmarital statusâ â have been removed from that list.
Similarly, the bylaw on âdecisions regarding medical staff membershipâ no longer forbids VA hospitals from discriminating against candidates for staff positions based on national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, membership in a labor organization or âlawful political party affiliationâ.
Dr Arthur Caplan, founding head of the division of medical ethics at New York Universityâs Grossman School of Medicine, called the new rules âextremely disturbing and unethicalâ.
My uncle was a Navy veteran. He would be furious and heartbroken over this.
