I work in hospital admin, and every time someone yells at me about their appointment being 6 months away, I get a little impulse to ask how theyâre planning to vote tbh
Iâve just watched the election debate between Johnson and Corbyn, and while I have decided to vote labour, and the debate hasnât changed my mind, I do think that neither of them came off well.
I was reminded of an event that happened in 2010 when Gordon Brown was Prime Minister and David Cameron was leader of the opposition. In this time David Cameronâs young son died. I canât remember how old the child was but I know he was under ten. The day after this happened Prime Ministerâs Questions was scheduled, a regular event at which both leaders must attend. Gordon Brown chose instead to suspend parliament for nearly a week in condolence and to give Cameron space. He and his wife reached out to Gordon and Samantha Cameron and supported them.
I do not believe that either of our current leaders would react the same way were a similar personal tragedy to hit the other. As the Conservative party dissolved into right wing nationalism and the Labour Party slips further left our politics is becoming more binary and devisive.
It saddens me that the televised event barely resembled a debate. It saddens me how degenerate the political atmosphere has become.
Jo Cox, who was martyred trying to keep the UK in the EU, a position I myself passionately believe in. She said in her maiden speech to parliament that âthere is more in common than that which divides usâ. Looking at the UK now I feel like weeping, and part of me would truly like to just leave it behind and move somewhere else.
Take a shot everytime the two wankers interrupt or ignore the moderator and I'll be drunk in no time. Might make this debate barable tbh.
