On his 14th birthday Eddie was reunited with his father, finding out his mother lied to him about his father’s illness and death. Upon finding out his father was still alive, Eddie also found out he had a step-mom and a baby sister.
On his 15th birthday Eddie found out his father finally won full legal custody. He moved into a large house with his Dad, step-mom, and sister in the middle of Derry. Everyday was filled with laughter and love. It completely changes Eddie from a paranoid hypochondriac to a boy who comes home everyday with grass stains on his shirt, breathless from running.
On his 16th birthday Eddie had a big party at his house with his family and the other Losers (who were all regulars there). It was the first time Eddie had ever invited the Losers over to his house for his birthday - his parents even letting them spend the night.
On his 17th birthday Eddie comes out to his Dad and step-mom. They’re totally supportive of him, asking him if he’s seeing anyone. In response he tells them the story of how Richie kissed him on his 16th birthday. So, naturally, Richie is invited over for dinner the next night.
