I’ve been hanging onto this wee dram for years - not easy to replace as this classic 16 yro Islay smokey dram is hard to come by But all good things The reward thick rich massive sherry and one of the smokiest noses out of this region The palate was equally rewarding with mouthfuls of dry huge sherry peat and oak with a wonderful sweetness And the finish, oh the finish……. Long spicy sweet rich and Smokey that just lingers and lingers Now I know why I save this last drop! ##whisky #whiskey #laphroaig #islay #islaywhisky #islaysinglemalt #peat #smoke #tonightstipple #scottish https://www.instagram.com/p/CcJVB6QvwGH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Lagavulin 16
Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Aged 16 years.
Well, what can I say about this whisky that has not been said before? I was not that into peated whisky by the time I tried Laga 16. So my expecations were quite low. Or atleast I was expecting the sensation of licking a bonfire.
I friggin loved it. And still do. It made an impact on me. It made me delve into peated whisky and especially Islay whisky. It really deserves the attention is gets. A true classic.
My notes: sherry, sweet, salt, the peat is beautifully intergrated, balanced, pineapple, oranges, cherries and a bit of leather. Complex.
Sat between Ardbeg and Laphroaig on the south coast of Islay, Lagavulin has a history of disagreements and lawsuits. Founded in 1816, a year after Laphroaig, it has been in fierce competition with its nearest neighbour ever since.
So good!

Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair (46.3% abv)
Nose: sour, unlit charcoal, leather, light sherry and toffee, toasted nuts. After💧: Lighter, fresh sea breeze
Palate: oily rich mouth feel, gentle smoking wood, the sweetness of aniseed, some raisin from its sherry cask, slight cinnamon. After 💧: more sourness and spice.
Finish: a light smoke that lingers, finish becomes sweeter
Round 26 of the 64 Bourbons Bracket: Elijah Craig SP 1.4 vs. Town Branch BP SP
When I would keep going back to Elijah Craig, the Town Branch kept dominating. With the freshness. The hunters and the male chauvinists loved the Stagg Jr. Well, the fucking dental students and Cold Lake era Tom G. Warrior love this Town Branch store pick single barrel. It is sooooooooooo fresh! The fresh maker. Fuck Mentos and Foo Fighters! Enter Vanity Nemesis Celtic Frost and the ever so fucking mysterious and strange Town Branch store pick. What the fuck? Foresee the wings of solitude, on Town Branch — a stranger in a strange Kentucky land — isolated from Scotland and Islay and Bardstown and allocated thoroughbred horseshit. Here it is, Town Branch from my hometown of Lexington coming in absolutely original. A mind fuck. Like Merzbow on acid. Or Cold Lake at the Milwaukee Metalfest performed by Opeth (their first concert on the USA). This is special. Uncharted territory. Cue the Sepultura song for the next track. But tell Wilmore, orthodox Josh that Town Branch and Vanity / Nemesis era Celtic Frost cruise on to the round of 32! Scotch!?!?! This is beyond scotch! Fuck scotch! This is a fresh mouthed fucking revelation! Raise your spiritual horns! I may be the Co-exist bumper sticker, but I celebrate anybody who actually believes and doesn’t ostracize non-believers. Cheers! Tom G. Warrior approves of Town Branch! Switzerland to fucking Kentucky by way of Scotland!
