Lunch on a Highbeam
Karhatiron Perkins - Mohawk, Turtle Clan - 2025
Bronze, steel, wood
"Lunch on a Highbeam is a tribute to all the Haudenosaunee ironworks. It is reference to the iconic 1932 black and white photograph of "Lunch on a Skyscraper". Growing up as a Mohawk, I always thought those men in the photo were native men because my father and grandfather were both Mohawk Ironworkers as well as on my mother's side. In my sculpture I present 9 bronze figures with effigy heads of all 9 clans of the Haudenosaunee people to honor the sacrifice our people made to build a future for our 7th generations."
