AHS: Hotel + The Onion
American Horror Story Hotel: Iris - Type 2w1
Iris is protective, nurturing and caring. Iris loves her son, Donovan so much and her main desire is to protect him and make sure he is ok.
At her best, Iris becomes more independent and more in touch with her own feelings. After turning into a vampire, she becomes less obsessed with Donovan and does more things for herself. For example, she shows Liz a video she made of herself called “I am Iris, hear me roar.”
At her worst, Iris can be very overbearing and needy, especially towards Donovan. She becomes fully focused on other people’s feelings and needs, while neglecting her own. Before she knows it, she has spent her whole life looking after Donovan doing anything for herself.
2s are usually quite nurturing and supportive, which we see with Iris. Iris is very caring towards Donovan and wants the best for him. She stays at the Hotel to keep an eye on him and stay connected to him. Before Donovan turned into a vampire, he was spiralling out of control and Iris felt like she needed to stop him from going down a bad path. Most of the time Iris means well for Donovan, but sometimes the way she goes about it, can be a bit over the top.
Iris resents the Countess for taking Donovan away from her, despite the fact that she turned him into a vampire and saved his life. Iris does feel grateful and appreciative of the Countess, but dislikes her because she feels like she pushes him away from her. She also sees how obsessed Donovan is with the Countess, and I think Iris believes that the Countess is using him. After the Countess breaks up with Donovan, Iris wants to take revenge on the Countess, under the guise of helping her son.
Iris lived her life for Donovan, she didn’t seem to have much else in her life. So, she always wanted to be close to Donovan regardless of what she had to do at the Hotel to stay there. When Donovan rejects her, she becomes depressed and feels like she has nothing left in her life worth living for. After Donovan saves her and she becomes a vampire, she begins to think Donovan does love her. She also grows after being turned as she forms a friendship with Liz Taylor which helps her become more confident.
Iris shows her wing 1 as she is more introverted and less charming than a 2w1 would be.
Tri-type: 2w1 - 6w7 - 8w7
Some quotes to describe Iris’ motivations
"You know what? It's your lucky day. Mama's feeling magnanimous today."
"I don't know who I am if I'm not your mother."
"I never knew how to live until I died."
"This building has a heart as black as the ace of spades and you're sleeping in it."
“You don't have to be out in the world to be a part of it. In the modern age, no one ever has to be alone. Even for a second.”
"Trust me, this place will grow on you."
“Are we ever ready to see ourselves for what we are?”
Liz Taylor (To Iris): “Listen to me, Iris. You and I, we are women of a certain age. We have suffered more than our fair share, dammit. We should inherit the earth.”
My New Life pt. 38
“This woman is making a joke of my hotel! All of these camera people running around, mocking the dead. This is the home of my life’s work! It is incredibly dear to me! I will not have this woman running around and defiling it any longer!” James yelled as he paced our room.
I took another drag of my cigarette, nodding slowly. All I could do was sit there, nod, and continue to let him vent. Billie Dean had made her way back into the Cortez to film some specials, just as she wished. I made it clear that I wouldn’t allow it but Iris went behind my back. At first it had increased business which was good, but now it was turning the Cortez into a tourist attraction. It mostly attracted many paranormal fanatics, some of whom were looking to be fucked by a ghost. I had to laugh at that a bit. I could be fucked by a ghost whenever I wanted to. Though apparently not now, since this Billie Dean was taking my ghost husband’s attention away from me.
“Diana!” James snapped, causing me to look up at him.
“Yes dear?” I asked innocently, knowing full well I had just zoned out during his rant, which would very likely upset him.
“Have you been listening to me?” He demands, his voice sounding cold and authoritative.
“Yes darling. Billie Dean is making a joke of this hotel and it has upset you. It is all you have spoken of for weeks.” I took another drag off of my cigarette, not bothering to mask my lack of enthusiasm.
“It sounds to me as if you don’t care, that you’re fine with this place, my creation, our home, becoming a joke.” James turned from me. I set down my cigarette in the ashtray. I stood and approached my husband.
I came up to James and wrapped my arms around him. “I hate that bitch. I told Iris I never wanted her to step foot in this hotel again.” I kissed his neck, hoping to make him warm up to me. “If I weren’t afraid of trapping her spirit here forever, I would have killed her the last time she was here.” James turned to face me. “But this venting is aimless. It isn’t productive. We need a plan. We need to ensure that she leaves and never comes back.”
James smiled at me and kissed my forehead. “You are quite right my dear.”
As much as I wanted to kiss his lips and stay here in his arms, I knew I had to do some digging about Billie Dean. “Now, you finish preparations for Devil’s Night tonight. Or have you forgotten your favorite night of the year my love?” I teased.
“How could I forget, all of my proteges, and my queen by my side.” He gripped my hips. I nearly melted at his touch. “I do hope to receive an invitation to your exclusive after party.”
I looked at him, seeing the hunger in his eyes. I was overjoyed to see that he wanted me, for the first time in weeks. I wanted to take him right then and there, but I had bigger problems. My husband would have to wait for me until tonight. “Of course you’re invited, and I made sure to have your favorite on the menu.” I gave him a soft kiss on the lips. “I’m going down to the front desk to see if I can find out more about our friend Billie Dean. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of me tonight.”
James gave me a kiss and then reluctantly let me go.
I stopped when I reached the door. “With the dress I’m wearing tonight, I will be impressed if you make it through all of dinner without sending everyone home early.” Before he could respond I was out the door. I made my way down to the bar, where I found Ramona and Iris. Liz was most likely working the front desk.
“Something must be done.” I informed them as I made my way behind the bar to pour myself a drink, which I proceeded to down in a single gulp.
“Well what’s the matter with you?” Iris asked.
“If I have to hear one more word about Billie Dean from my husband…” I poured another drink. “It won’t be good.”
“Funny you should mention it. Iris and I were just talking about her.” Ramona laughed. “Iris says its all her fault so you may want to take it up with her.”
“In my defense I thought she would be good for business, and she was, you can’t deny that” Iris huffed.
I pondered and sipped my drink. “You weren’t wrong, I’m glad this place is more alive. I’m glad business is good. I just hate living in a fucking theme park, feeling like my life is a show. People think it is some big joke to have sex with a ghost….”
“Look, why don’t we just shut the place down. If we aren’t open she can’t film here anymore. Will Drake has plenty of money now.” Ramona said.
“We need to make it to 2026, so they cannot touch us. Closing would be very suspicious. We don’t need any more unwanted attention than we already have.” I explained.
“We’ve worked hard to get where we are, I’m not going to let some ghost stories and paranormal freaks shut us down.” Iris stated.
“I guess I just don’t see the point. It seems like a lot of energy for nothing.” Ramona said.
“It’s not for nothing.” A male voice stated, making us all turn our heads. There was John. “This is a hotel, it needs life. The guests help those trapped here to stay in touch with the outside world. We wouldn’t want this place turning into a graveyard.”
“John, I was wondering when you would be getting here.” Iris stated cheerfully.
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” I sang to myself as I poured another drink. John was now one of the spirits who materialized at the Cortez for Devil’s Night. In all honesty his death was quite tragic. After hunting for Alex and Holden, he was caught by the police and shot down, right in front of the hotel. Part of me was glad that he hadn’t made it in time. I don’t think I could have handled him taking up James’ attention for all eternity. Though I still didn’t forgive John for killing Elizabeth, I understood he had his reasons, and I respected him. Every Devil’s Night I would find myself growing friendlier towards him, and drinking always helped.
“Glad to see you too, Diana.” John said, giving me a nod. I gestured to him with my glass before taking a sip.
“We’ve missed you John.” Iris stated.
“It’s always good to be home.” John stated. “Now what’s all this about closing the hotel?” He asked.
“Billie Dean Howard.” I replied. “She has gone from making us popular to turning us into a joke, and we’ve all had it.”
“I’m glad to hear it. I don’t like her here, poking around. Is she still trying to contact me?” He chuckled.
“Oh yes, every year, without fail.” Iris nodded.
“Surprised she didn’t make arrangements for this year. Maybe if she finally met you she would go away.” I said.
“That could work.” John mused, turning to face me fully. “What if I brought her to the party tonight? That would be enough to scare the shit out of anyone. I know I got scared, my first time.”
“It is unsettling at first, unfortunately you and I fit right in.” I laughed. “But I don’t think precious little Billie Dean will.”
“Iris, get Billie here, and get her in my room. I think we can finally be rid of this woman. Diana, lets go see your husband.”
With my drink still in hand, I let John take my arm and lead me to the elevator. We made our way up to mine and James’ suite. I opened the door with a smile.
“The prodigal son has returned, darling.” I announced with a giggle. James appeared and greeted John with a firm handshake.
“Pleasure to see you. How did things go downstairs?” He asked.
“John here has an idea of how to get rid of Billie Dean, but we may have to adjust our party plans a bit.” I informed him.
“Anything to be rid of that foul woman.” James said.
“Well, Iris is going to get her to come here. She has been trying to get in contact with my spirit for years now. If I give her the interview she wants, and guarantee her the story of a lifetime, I can lure her to Devil’s Night.”
“And there we shall kill her?” James asked, one eyebrow raised skeptically.
“Oh god no.” I laughed.
“But we will certainly scare her.” John explained. “We will get her to agree to never speak of this place again.”
“I do love your thinking, but how would we ensure that she stays true to her word?”
“Me.” I stated, putting it together. “Unlike you, I’m not bound to the hotel. I’m more than happy to hunt her down and drain every drop of her blood. She may not be a witch but she has something else running through her blood that I believe would be pretty tasty.”
“Darling, you have met her before, how can you be sure she would believe you? Or be afraid of you?” James asked.
“You’re right.” I mused. “I will get Ramona to come too. If Ramona doesn’t scare her, nothing will.”
“I believe it is an excellent plan John. What a fun party game for us this year.” James mused.
“Well, I see you haven’t quite finished with the dinner set up James, and I must start getting ready. John, I would go check to make sure your guest is on her way.” I guided him to the door.
“See you at dinner.” John said, heading out the door.
James moved to embrace you, but you held up your hand to stop him.
“Mr. March, I believe you have a table to finish setting. I’ll leave you to it, I must start getting changed, and I’ve got to phone Ramona.” I moved past him into the bedroom. Before closing the doors, I gave him a final glance. “Don’t worry. If you behave yourself tonight, I’m all yours.” I shut the door. Teasing James was a dangerous game, but I couldn’t resist getting him all riled up before Devil’s Night, and the delights that would follow.
Well, I know it has been a while, but here is part 1 of the finale of My New Life. I know I left you all hanging for a while, but I hope you are all very excited to see the end of this story. Is there anything you hope to see before Diana’s story ends? Is there another story you would love to see after this? Let me know. As always, thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy!

It's not about why die. It's about why continue to live. I can't think of a single reason. I guess I'm just not lovable.
Iris, AHS: Hotel
You know, I see people laughing and smiling and I cannot for the life of me understand why. I just don't get the joke anymore. I am the joke.
