#TBT. This is @iamashtonbell. You will always see him with a back pack on. He is connected to it by his broviac & his gTube. In the backpack holds his iV fluids, his TPN & his feeding bag. This is an everyday routine for our family, even when we travel! EVERYDAY ROUTINE!!! For HPN Awareness week, i'll share the facts: There are many disease states that can result in TPN dependence and therefore the need for HPN. Ashton's dependence was the result of intestinal malrotation (when the small intestines don't rotate properly in the abdominal cavity properly during utero), which turned into volvulus (the tangling of the small intestine) - resulting in the majority loss of his small bowel, 96% to be exact, had to be resected (cut out), by the time the doctors got to it, during an emergency surgery.
