We were all of a generation which was not emotionally blurting. We might discuss our hearts in quiet conversation, but preferred, on the whole, to bear disappointment privately. This is my observation, anyway.

The Game

It is normal to internalize the feeling that our culture imposes on us: that something is wrong with us because we are grieving. We can, if not careful, begin to loathe ourselves for continuing to grieve. The task is not to stop grieving; the task is to live fully while grieving.

The Interconnected Life Of Symbolism

Stop internalizing. You need to let it out to let it go. You can put it on a piece of paper and put the paper in the fireplace. You can whisper on a windy day and let the air carry the words away. Avoidance is the worst. The more you try not to think about something, the more you will. The physical act of letting something go creates a shift in your mind. Many memory masters use detailed visual depictions to remember massive amounts of information, taking advantage of the way we are wired.  Of course, also take steps to address your general worrying, some of which may have nothing to do with the so called topic at hand. Keeping toxic thoughts and feelings bottled up only hurts you and leaves you primed for an explosion. You can not always talk to someone and work it out, but you can find your own peace and closure. Work through it on your terms. Do not be afraid to enlist help- a friend, a therapist. If your appendix were threatening to rupture and release poison into your body, you would run for help. Your mind can poison you in another way, but your reaction should be as swift and definitive.
