I think I am stupid because of having to hear that constantly in my adolescence...
Hey there lovely,I am so sorry that you had to hear that constantly in your adolescence. It is definitely not unusual for someone to internalise negative thoughts about themselves that they had to hear from other people during childhood or adolescence, so please don't feel alone or abnormal in any way for feeling like this, it isn't anything wrong with you at all. What tends to happen is when we hear something so often, it begins to eat its way into our mind until we internalise the thoughts and actually believe them ourselves. This can happen with many things, and it's so painful to think of how many people believe bad things about themselves because of horrible things people have said to them in the past. It is so unfair and horrible it is beyond words, I don't know why people can't just keep their false nasty lies to themselves because they don't realise the damage it can have on a person!! I can promise you that you are not stupid. You are not stupid at all, whoever told you that, no matter who it was or however many people said it- they are completely wrong. Even if you weren't as good as them at one thing, you would be better than them at other things. Everyone has their own set of skills, some people are good at maths, some at writing, some at art or singing or dancing or any thing else! I am not as good at maths as my boyfriend, that does not make me stupid at all, it just means I'm not as good at maths, but I am better at cooking and singing (don't tell him I said that :') ). The point I'm trying to get at is that I can promise you that you are not stupid, because no one is stupid except for people who like to tell other people that they are stupid and hurt other peoples feelings. You are wonderful, and I am sure there are many things you are good at, even if you don't think you are! What I would like you to try and do from this day onwards, is to internalise some new thoughts to replace these ones. Tell yourself that you're wonderful, when you do something well, tell yourself 'I did that well, I'm good at that', tell yourself when you feel like you haven't done something well 'okay, that didn't go to plan but that doesn't matter because I am good at 'x''. Try this all the time, with lots of different things, because even if at first you have to force it and don't believe it at all at first, eventually these thoughts will wiggle their way in and begin to internalise just like those negative words of other people did. I promise you are not stupid!Adrienne xx
Are you building monuments or moving on?
Are you building monuments or moving on?
There are two possible responses to wrongdoing: remorse or repentance. Unfortunately, remorse is where most of us get stuck. The weight of what you have done wrong feels like it will crush you and you can’t imagine sinking any lower. You know something has to change, but most of the time you feel like it is too late. You replay your failures over and over in your head and stew in an endless…

Erase
White must be the skin
of the wife i will have
White is the dress, and the grooms men
in a white chapel
Bring her back in my white car
to my newly whitewashed house
playing her a tune
on my white guitar
make love to her
on my white bed under white sheets.
Everything be white.
But their shadows spill grey
threaten to wash the whiteness away
I take the shadows
hide it in me
along with the shadows my father gave down to me
and i will pass these shadows to my children.
Teach them
the whiteness, fairness is all that counts
you can hide the shadows inside you
because no one is coming to look
no one will care
as long as the white family with bright white teeth
is free from the brown of their reality.
