M A R M O R I I I | Living in marble | Conceptual research and architectural project @hannespeer | In Italy there are 17.000 abandoned quarries of all sorts. This is a sector that is still regulated by a Royal Decree of 1927 and penalized by a territorial planning that in some cases is completely absent. This project proposes a strategic reuse of these abandoned marmor quarries. The former volumes excavated for marble extraction and the new volumes excavated to better adapt the project create meanders of sculptural porosity and a unique architectural composition. ‘The field of vision is comparable, for me, to the terrain of an archaeological dig.
