I'm so sorry that this is kinda venty.
I despise when people have the audacity to tell me that my transition was easier because I could access testosterone as a minor because of the way I'm intersex. I love being on T. But before that, I was forced on estrogen and progesterone, and that shit wrecked me physically and mentally.
I still have nightmares back to the time I was forced to take estrogen and progesterone. Like, in these dreams, people will chase me around to try and force the pills down my throat.
Estrogen and progesterone made all my conditions worse, and it made me so dysphoric, but my doctors didn't care until I was almost dying from it. So finally, they took me off it, and let me go on testosterone instead, since that was what my body originally needed the whole time. It took them a while to give me the medication I needed, since everyone wanted me to be a fertile little womb for my "future husband." (Even though I was literally already fucking infertile?? Which my doctors even already shamed me for??)
I think that the medical intersexism I experienced was very closely tied to the medical transandrophobia I experienced. Testosterone is genuinely life-saving for me, physically and mentally. The fact that it took so long to be given to me should be outraging!!
But no, sure, my transition was "easier" because doctors forced me to have a dangerous puberty and withheld a safer puberty from me before finally allowing me to experience a safe puberty as a minor. Intersex transmascs have it so good don't we?
This is intersexism and transandromisia.
The talking point of "cis/intersex people have easier access to hormones than trans people" always irks me to no end. Do people not realize that this "easy access" is CIMI? That it can be incredibly traumatic for people to go through? I genuinely want to know what the statistics are for cis and/or intersex people receiving hormone therapies that were safe and consensual.
