So... who remembers Marvel's Infinity Warps? The I think Event, or Event adjacent, comics that fused half the Marvel Universe together. Yeah, that comic! Remember that they fused Laura Kinney & Scarlet Witch together to create Weapon Hex? Remember who they fused with Sabretooth for the Weapon Hex comics to create Hellhound?
You see, I ask these because it gave me an idea after seeing a post or few about how Laura kinda needs a nemesis or rival similar to how Logan has Sabertooth. It got me thinking that maybe a rival for Laura could be Illyana Rasputin, could be Magik. Maybe not as brutal of a rivalry as Logan and Sabretooth, but still a rivalry nonetheless. From what I remember, both Laura and Illyana had pretty shit childhoods to put it mildly, with some bright spots here and there before they made it to Xavier's. In all honesty, with the characters are right now in the mainline continuity, I cannot easily see this potential rivalry happening there. I can see it in an Ultimate Universe situation however. Illyana doesn't need to be involved in The Facility's project like how Hellhound was in Weapon Hex, but I feel like in this hypothetical universe she could be a student at Xavier's while Laura is also there. Maybe the two don't initially interact but a training exercise brings them together and that's when the rivalry starts. Maybe the two could start arguing over after getting into a Sentinel destroying contest. I remember there being a point in a few comics where Laura questioned if she has a soul. I think it could interesting to see her sort of brooding about that but then Illyana comes around and just scoffs at the idea that Laura doesn't. Then the two could start fighting. Maybe Illyana feels the need to physically beat some sense into Laura about how she does have a soul, or things would be different for the clone/daughter of Logan. Maybe how Laura would be an unfeeling, unrepentant robot if she didn't.
For the mainline continuity however, I feel like Surge and maybe some other New X-Men could fit the role of a rival for Laura. Surge especially. From what I remember, both also have pretty shitty childhoods before joining Xavier's, but Surge tries to run with things as they are in the present while Laura often worries about the past. Laura has a hard time letting go while Surge just tries to roll with things. Both are still a mess however, and that could bring them into conflict with each other.
