In the reading by Chauncey it says that there was a place named Columbia Hall  in New York known as âParesis Hallâ which was the main resort for degenerates and there was male prostitutes working there just as women prostitutes did, taking care of the tables, dancing, singing etc, and They called each other sisters. âSince early in the nineteenth century of manhattanâs Lower East Side, ha been the epicenter of a distinct working-class public culture, with its own codes of behavior, dress, and public sociability.â Which seems to be very surprising for me to know this because of everything that is been happening now days, the fighting that has been going on about equality for everyone and before there was so many places where the LGBTQ community were able to be themselves, a place where they were free to dress the way they wanted and how ever they wanted to act, it was a community of freedom. âAt a time when New York was famous for being a âwide-open town,â some clubs went so far as to stage live sexual performances, some of them designed to startle and engage their audiences by their transgression of normal racial and gender boundaries.â As we can see before New York was a places where things were just the way people wanted to be where racism didnât exist at all in respect to been a black male with a white female or the other way around. In the same way that the gender didnât matter a black male with a white male or the other way around, a women with a women. Which now is not tolerated by us the society. âThe lure was a live sex show that included sex between a black man and a white women, between two women, and between a women and a man in womenâs clothes.â This is an examples how the racism and gender was not a problem back in the times as I was explaining been black with a white person, or two person of the same sex been together.  As Nesbitt meet this men who his nickname was âPrincess Totoâ and this men was explaining the fact that they were born the way they are naturally âNature had made him this way, Toto assured the young medical student, and there were many men such as he.â He is saying that many more men are just like him who were born naturally that way, which in another word is saying that been from the LGBTQ community is not something socially constructed as society nowadays want to make it seem as , they were born that way not constructed. âNormalâ men and âfairiesâ intermingled casually at many saloons, some of which were well known as âfairy placesâ in their neighborhoods. At some of them, fairies and their partners used the back rooms for sexual encounters, just as mixed sex couples didâ. It was something normal to see two person of the same sex getting into a room to have a encounter but nowadays is something considered to be out of the norms, something that should not be tolerated base on our constructed idea about gender by us society.The number of âmixedâ saloons reveals instead the degree to which gay culture was tolerated by---and integrated into----working-class cultures and the degree to which social and sexual interactions between âqueerâ and ânormalâ men were central to gay life. We should all learn from the past and take in to a look how things were back in those times how it was a better world of equality for everyone within gender and race.
