My Thoughts on the New Global Risks Report Released by the World Economic Forum
My Thoughts on the New Global Risks Report Released by the World Economic Forum
Every year, in the latter half of January, the World Economic Forum (WEF) publishes a report on what they perceive are the top global risks over the next 2 years and over the next 10 years. They break down their analysis by age category, geographical location, etc. and rank all their risks.
This years report is really a joke.
What they do not say, is that if one person in particular was not around, their report would be COMPLETELY different. Essentially, the dire state of risks with things like "Geoeconomic confrontation" come down to one person leading one country, and the interstate confrontation risks come down to this same person and one or two other people leading other countries.
In other words, if one or two people were suddenly not in charge anymore, then their report would immediately become wrong, and they could write an entirely new report the next week.
That is simply the state of our world at the moment...

"It is Clear This Civilization is Already Running on Smack Fumes": George Tsakraklides
In today's Chronicle of the Collapse, we get some advice from hopium-free fellow collapsitarian, George Tsakraklides. Here is a link to his new essay on Substack, titled, "Detoxing from the Hope Porn: Why Collapse Realism Is the New Activism
Part 2: The age of emergent disasters
Part 1 argued that modern humans are maladapted by nature and nurture to the world they themselves have created. Our paleolithic brains are befuddled by the sheer scale, complexity and pace of change of our socio-biophysical environments. Our contemporary (yet ânaturalâ) simplistic, reductionist mechanistic ways of approaching this new ârealityâ fail to enlighten.
Part 2 makes the case that much of our befuddlement is due to the onslaught of unfamiliar, dangerous, scale-induced emergent phenomena including cultural pathology. We cannot control the chaotic world that is unfolding from the clash and convergence of large complex systems, both cultural and biophysical. The evidence suggests that modern techno-industrial (MTI) societies have been irreversibly expelled from the sustainability Garden of Eden and are in danger of being âselected outâ altogether.
First We Will Lose the Water. Climate Collapse
Climate change is causing the entire land mass on planet Earth is drying out.
Scientists believe it is permanent and irreversible.
This video looks at why this is happening and how Earth's water cycle works,.

Letâs get something straight because Internet mfs are incredibly bad at this.
Fascism =/= thing I dislike.
Fascist =/= person I dislike.
âFascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology characterized by a dictatorial leader, a centralized autocratic government, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.â
Believing in the concept of overshoot and overpopulation (and consumption, too) does not make you a fascist. Claiming that minority groups are the problem and need to be eradicated IS the problem.
Finding depictions of underage characters or animals in explicit situations weird is not fascism. Even if you want to claim that certain countries outlawing that is that doesnât mean people canât personally find it detestable. Also, laws arenât inherently fascistic. Authoritarian, yes, but not fascistic. Youâre missing the far-right, ultranationalistic part of it.
Disagreeing with someone politically does not make them a fascist, though I will say there are absolutely times where they are crypto-fascists or enabling, and frankly, I find itâs more of a âfuck youâ insult in debate circles than a genuine claim so I guess idc.
Letâs say thereâs a cult. Is a cult inherently fascist? No. Is it inherently controlling, authoritarian and corrupt? Usually. But not inherently fascist. If itâs a cult about âpreserving white cultureâ or other b$ dogwhistles, yeah, thatâs fascist.
People know this. They do not care. I have seen people who draw weird shit with minors accusing people who take issue of it of being fascist. Someone expressing an opinion isnât fascist, I hate to break it to you. If you can use your âfreedom of expressionâ then so can other people. Two way street.
For this task, we were told to animate a lamp jumping forwards a step. I used both anticipation as well as overshoot, giving the lamp a more 'alive' feel to it. As usual with 3D, I used the keyframes feature, positioning the lamp in its key poses and allowing the software to fill in the gaps, before editing them to my liking.
Modern life is waging a war against ecosystems around us and inside us. Keeping our own microbes healthy is another reason to demand action
âModern life is waging a war against ecosystems inside us and surrounding us,⌠When people think about the nature crisis they probably think about vanishing rainforests or species going extinct, but there is another, hidden extinction happening at a microscopic level.â
