Since love and trust are important to transforming and using magical girl powers. does the way in which you love/trust someone matters?
Like if its only platonic feelings of trust and love, would your transformation and power be average?
And if its romantic feelings do you get stronger?
Are physical acts of trust and love more strengthening because so far its only EMOTIONAL trust and love thats been used as a power source.
This is still PIDW after all so of course airplane would write it in a way that if you dual cultivate beforehand youre at your most powerful.
Okay, here's the thing... the way you love someone (as friends, family, lovers, whatever) doesn't actually matter, but not for any noble, righteous reasons but because Airplane accidentally fucked it without realising he was doing so until he was then forced to live in the world he'd created
Airplane went at this story intended to make it a "subversion" of the magical girl genre. But he did it in the worst possible tradition of subversion: in which the person doing the subversion has no real respect for the genre or its conventions. It's why Luo Binghe is set up to be a magical girl but then almost entirely relies on demonic transformations instead, his ability to love and trust other people is severely eroded by his time under Shen Qingqiu. Airplane was trying to spit in the eye of the ~ㅤꨄ︎♡ through the power of love ♡ㅤꨄ︎~ trope.
So what two relationships does Airplane accidentally frame as the most important, life-altering ones in Luo Binghe's life, for wildly different reasons? The ones with his mother (positive) and Shen Qingqiu (negative), and those are familial and platonic/mentorial. Furthermore, Luo Binghe has a lot of sex and marries a lot of wives, but the sex really does nothing to alter his ability to connect with his magical girl magic, and the show is basically set up to show that whatever "romance" Binghe has with those women is shallow. Haha, you think love and friendship is powerful? "Look at this man, he's so broken and isolated that he has none of that, but does that make him weak??? No!!! instead he forcefully finds a different power in his isolation and pain that is even stronger than that wussy magic!!!" (Airplane thinks he's being VERY clever, Cucumber has many long rants about it.)
Which means Airplane was very surprised to wake up in a world in which romance actually has little bearing on the importance of a relationship, sex can mean everything or nothing depending on the person, and the trust you have between family and friends if just as important as anything else, depending on how deeply someone feels it. He is very shocked pikachu about this. Cucumber is going to beat him to death.
