so this happened a year or so ago and I’m feeling like the internet really needs to hear about it. So one day, out of the blue, I get an Instagram DM from this guy I did high school theater with. He was never really someone I hung out with since he was a few years older than me and just did tech, but I was friends with his younger sister and he seemed cool enough so I opened it.

basically what he said was, ‘hey, my buddies and I make short films and I thought you would be perfect in this one we’re working on, are you interested?’ and me being me, who jumps at any chance to act, I said sure, why not? It sounds like fun and I’m not in a show right now so lets do it.

dude says great, lets meet up to discuss the role and shooting and all that. so I’m thinking we’re going to go to a starbucks or some coffee shop because thats where you go to discuss screen plays, right? well I was DEAD WRONG. this guy says, lets meet up at this bar arcade, saturday night, eight o’clock.

this is when things start getting weird. I agree since I’m trying to be professional. we’re going to be working together, I don’t want to start things off by being a diva and changing the location so I go along with it.

i order one drink because I think I’ll be there a half hour tops.WRONG. this dude keeps me at this packed bar for FOUR FUCKING HOURS. five minutes of those four hours was spent discussing the ‘movie.’ the rest of the time is spent with him turning this into what could only be described as a date. I’m so uncomfortable but again, I don’t want to rock the boat with someone I’m going to be working with so I stay put, feeling so weird the entire time.

after I finally leave, he starts texting me incessantly. of course at this point I’m starting to question things but I go along with it until he drops the bomb. about three days later, he asks me out on an actual date. at first I make excuses like, ‘oh, I’m busy that night,’ stuff like that. he doesn’t get the hint. so finally I say, ‘I am not interested in you that way, I do not want to date you.’

he says, ‘oh, well I thought we really connected, I thought we were into each other.’ and I’m sitting here thinking, because we had a polite conversation? because I stayed and put up with your movie bro, gatekeeper conversations? so of course I say, ‘no, I don’t want to date you. I do not feel that way.’ he says fine, sorry, do you still want to be in the movie?

at this point I feel so awkward but I say yes, thinking I could work past it. well, I never hear from him again. THERE WAS NEVER A MOVIE. it did not exist, he made it up to try to get me to date him!!!!! and I know it never happened because I follow a lot of the people that would have been working on this ‘movie’ with him and it just flat was not a thing.

I also put together that the day before he DM’d me, I posted a picture in a sports bra, which he liked. and I’m not trying to say I’m so hot that I drive men to do things like this, but thats the only explanation I can think of.
