some io angst for you all "And mortals, who in those days dwelled in the land, shook with pallid terror at the terrible sight as they beheld a being fearsome, half-human, part cow and part of woman; and they were astonished at the monstrous thing"-Suppliant Women
"She reached her father's river and the banks where often she had played and, in the water, mirrored she saw her muzzle and her horns, and fled in terror from the self she saw. The Naides did not know--not even her father knew who she was, but she, disconsolate, followed her sisters, followed her father, let them stroke her, offered herself to be admired. Old Inachus picked grass and held it out; she licked her father's hand, cow-kissed his palms; her tears rolled down; if only words would come, she'd speak her name, tell all, implore their aid." -ovid metamanmorphis

INACHUS
In Greek mythology, Inachus was a River-God of Argolis in the Peloponnesos, southern Greece. When the gods Poseidon and Hera contested for dominion over Argos, Inachus was appointed arbiter and decided in Hera's favour. In retalation Poseidon dried up his stream. The Inakhos River flowed south through western Argos, emptying into the Argolic Gulf between the towns of Argos and Tiryns. Its stream ran dry in mid-summer.
Why is it that Argive children in a certain festival call themselves, in jest, "Pear-throwers"? Is it because the first men that were led down by Inachus from the mountains to the plain lived, as they say, on wild pears? They also say that wild pears were first discovered by the Greeks in the Peloponnesus at a time when that country was still called Apia, a wherefore wild pears were named apioi.
-Plutarch

⚡️Mythology Monday ⚡️
Inachus was the first king of the city of Argos in Greek mythology. His name was also given to the river Inachus nearby. He was the eldest king of Argos, and according to the myth, he was one of the three judges in a dispute between the gods Poseidon and Hera, alongside Cephissus and Asterion. When they decided that Hera was right, Poseidon was enraged and removed all the water from the river. It was also believed that he was the god of the aforementioned river, thus making him a son of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys. Along with the ash-tree nymph Melia, or Argia, he had a number of children, including Phoroneus, Aegialeus, and Philodice. His daughter Io was by him alone, when he bore her out of his mouth. The myth has it that he founded the city of Argos after the flood, from which Deucalion and Pyrrha were the only survivors.
This oddly-proportioned crab now goes by the name of Leach's spider crab (Inachus phalangium). However, it appears to have been known as Stenorhynchus phalangium before 1934.
In the wild, these spider crabs live commensally with the sea anemone species Anemonia sulcata. The crabs live among the anemones and enjoy the protection of its stinging cells, much like Clownfishes.
