pre and post maleshov hans needs to be studied like the bible. pre maleshov in the poachers camp hans is still a little cold with henry. pre maleshov when they reunite at the wedding henry can say that he’s glad to see him and hans responds with sarcasm. pre maleshov in trosky hans puts on airs a little to assert himself after his humiliation. post maleshov the walls come down. he’s no longer wasting time hiding his true thoughts. he tells henry he prayed for him, he’s worried about him, that henry needs a break, that henry needs to rest. does it befit a nobleman to steal jobst’s bow and give it to henry as a gift? maybe not but he does it anyway. does it make him look less noble to dig a grave and give henry the easier task of carving up a deer? yes but he still does it. he was guarded around henry before maleshov and most likely spent most of his time in maleshov wallowing in grief thinking henry was dead and he’s not going to make the mistake of letting pride or status or anything else get in the way of him showing his true feelings any longer
