‪I’m sick and tired of people underestimating University students taking Arts courses. Every time I tell someone I’m an English major they automatically assume I want to be a teacher (which is a great profession,‬ but not one I have a skill for) simply because they don’t believe I can do anything else with my degree. It’s especially hard when I tell my family because they were raised in Asian countries, where they predominantly value successful jobs like engineers, doctors, and lawyers. At family parties, when I tell them about my program, they ALWAYS hit me with the “you’re in English, don’t you already know how to speak English hahah?!”. LIKE SERIOUSLY. It’s very disheartening to have your goals and career dreams LAUGHED AT and UNDERMINEDED. Yes, I want to be a writer and yes, I know it’s hard. But that’s my own mountain to climb. Just like doctors and engineers have their own challenges and struggles that they need to move past. BEING IN THE ARTS IS NOT EASY. THEY ARE NOT BIRD COURSES. You are literally taking concepts of ideas and thoughts and forming them into actual, physical things. So it’s mind-boggingly disrespectful to me to feel like my own family thinks I’m wasting my life on something meaningless.

On another note, I decided to write this rant after a trip to my local pharmacy to pick up a prescription. I told my pharmacist what program I was in, then he proceeded to look at me like I was insane. He even had the AUDACITY to question what I was doing with my own LIFE. Can other people STOP looking down on others just because they don’t learn the same as them or they aren’t passionate about STEM courses?!

There are SO MANY other jobs in the world and I can’t wrap my head around how ignorant people can be about the ideals of ‘success’. Obviously not everyone is going to be a scientist or a doctor. So what’s the damn problem? Why do people feel the need to demote the creative arts, when it provides such a deep and complex perspective of the world? Why do others have to shit on someone else’s creative outlets? I appreciate people who are striving to be in STEM programs but I know a lot of them who struggle in the Arts. By all means, I could never do what they do, but that’s my point exactly- it’s difficult for me to grasp biology like it is for others to write a 12 page paper. That’s why I will never get how some people can think they are better than others JUST because of the program they are in. Everyone is different. Everyone is good at something. Just sometimes these talents don’t conform to what other people constitute as ‘success’...

Super M is really really makes me frustrated. All I want is SM to treat EXO better and give them US and Europe tour instead of Asia only and also Jongin Solo. I remembered Jongin hinted about his solo early this year.
