I know it’s past Christmas and most holidays but I’m not about to sleep on some Zartemis wintery/holiday headcanons:

The hunters always find ways to have snowball fights. Zoë absolutely refuses to get involved in such childish things.

Until Artemis shoves snow down the back of her shirt and all hell breaks loose.

They all join together to build the biggest snowman possible. Then the snowman is used as target practice and they decorate him with arrows so he has a whole scarf design and face.

Artemis is impossibly pale in winter which only makes her more god like in appearance and Zoë is deceased because she’s so pretty!

Ice skating is always a fun time when the newer hunters from warmer climates get on ice for the first time. It’s like Artemis and Zoë have to herd a bunch of newly walking toddlers.

Although both Artemis and Zoë can handle the colder weather it doesn’t stop the Lieutenant from sneaking into Artemis’ tent and snuggling up with her. Nothing’s more comfy than a warm body to hold in cold weather.

Artemis is always the earliest riser during winter, as more needs to be taken care of like setting up a fire. This sometimes results in surprise hugs from Zoë who always wakes second. Whether Artemis is clearing snow off of left out pans or knocking ice off of equipment Zoë will suddenly be there hugging her.

When it’s really windy they all put up their parka hoods and Zoë looks adorable with flushed cheeks from the wind and her face half hidden in fur.

During Christmas though it’s a Christian holiday, Artemis always goes out of her way to get every hunter a small gift. It makes Zoë laugh because the mortals invented Santa after someone caught sight of Artemis’ chariot and the deer that pulled it.

The hunters jokingly insisted the song lyrics “I saw mommy kissing Santa Clause.” Are about someone catching Zoë kissing Artemis.

That ^ always makes Zoë mad because “I would never.”

Sometimes Artemis’ nose gets really red and it is an entirely adorable thing that makes Zoë have an irresistible urge to boop her on the nose.

Many cuddles occur during winter and when it’s below freezing by a good amount the two ditch their clothes and get as close as possible beneath a pile of fur to keep from shivering.

While it’s cute and intimate it makes getting up in the morning nearly impossible because they both just want to stay in bed all day without moving a centimeter.

Someone recently told me that they didn’t understand Thalia joining the Hunters of Artemis because it was out of character, a cop out, and something a coward would do. I, however, strongly disagree and here’s why:

It’s noted more than once how similar Zoë and Thalia are. They’re almost identical just from different eras. Powerful dads having to do with the sky, neglected by those dads, having to fend for themselves, find a new family, and lose a sibling. Because yes, Calypso is Zoë’s sister.

Thalia isn’t a coward. In fact it was incredibly brave of her to remove herself from the prophecy. She recognized the danger of herself should she turn 16. She was tempted more than once by Luke and the notion of power. The prime example being the Ophiotaurus.

She has lots of anger at the Gods, particularly her father and Hera, that Percy hasn’t quite cultivated yet. He’s still new and fresh to it all and was lucky in having a loving mother to help guide him morally.

Thalia needs guidance and a family. She could have that at camp but let’s face it-she’d hate it. She’d be a permanent year rounded and she’s not the type to like staying still. She likes moving. That’s how she survives. Being a Huntress gives her that opportunity.

Artemis is the first god/goddess who openly and shamelessly aids them. She’s also the first one to believe and advocate to act against the dangers ahead. She cares. She cared enough to hold the sky for Annabeth whom she barely knew. That’s not going to be lost on Thalia. She’s used to callous pain in the ass gods not those willing to sacrifice things for them.

Artemis actually shows emotion and compassion. She clearly cares about her hunters enough to take on a task by herself to spare their lives, she doesn’t use heroes as expendable pawns. Thalia would notice this too.

What’s more, Artemis is blood related to Thalia. Artemis is probably the only semblance of family Thalia’s had contact with in years. She’d naturally gravitate to that sort of nurturing and guiding presence.

Gods can talk through thoughts. There’s no saying what Artemis and Thalia could have talked about on the way back to Olympus.

Artemis doesn’t demand Thalia to completely turn her back on Percy her friend or Grover or others. She recognized Thalia’s case is different.

Thalia would be immortal. If you think she’s not scared of potentially dying again you’d be wrong. I mean, just on the single quest Bianca mad Zoë died. The stakes are high. She just got back to the real world, she wouldn’t want to lose that.

She could find Jason. Knowing about their situation now, it would make sense. It would give her the opportunity to potentially find out what happened to her brother.

Zoë: “Are you sure I can’t break his knee caps?”

Artemis: “Yes.”

Zoë: “Fracture a rib?”

Artemis: “No.”

Zoë: “Break his nose?”

Artemis: “...I’ll allow it.”

Hermes: “Okay, level with me here...”

Artemis: “Alright? Go on.”

Hermes: “What is the point of Mayonnaise?”

Artemis:

Dionysus: “Is it really necessary to hold her that tight?”

Artemis: *hugging Zoë* “I love her.”

Dionysus: “I know. But can she breath?”

Apollo: “What the hell did I just walk in on?”

Hermes: “Dance party.”

Poseidon: “Join in.”

Apollo: “Why are you here, Artemis?”

Artemis: “I’m competitive and I’m ready to kick your glowing fire fly looking ass.”

Apollo: 😖

Athena: “Wear pants! Wear them!”

Ares: “It’s freeing without them.”

Athena: “No one wants to see your tighty whities.”

Area: “Listen, I’m not wearing pants and it’s final.”

Zoë: “You know, I have wondered what it would be like to shoot someone in the-“

Zoë: “My first pet was a dragon.”

Artemis: “What was it like?”

Zoë: “He was difficult to manage, temperamental, smelly, lazy, and cute on occasion but he loved me best.”

Artemis: “I see...so my brother was my first pet then.”

Zoë: “I once heard a man explain his fear of women.”

Artemis: “Do tell.”

Zoë: “He told me that women always have a hidden internal anger that keeps them going.”

Artemis: “He isn’t wrong. Anger makes the blood run faster for me to surpass them in sheer willpower and the use of natural steroids: rage.”

Zoë: “I’ve never met a pirate but I’ve always wanted to.”

Artemis: “I met one once. She kept going on about ‘Booty.’”

Zoë: “Maybe she was complimenting you. You do have a flattering er...booty.”

Artemis: “Hold my bow! Imma kill him!”

Zoë: “...”

Artemis: “I said hold my bow.”

Zoë: “I know, but this is entertaining and he deserves to die.”

Artemis: “One day you’ll be able to stay with me on Olympus. It’ll be wonderful.”

Zoë: “I don’t mind the tents.”

Artemis: “But you mind the mosquitoes.”
