LIFE IS A THEATER YEARS OF DENIAL [HUMAN TRAGEDY, 2020]
People speak sometimes about the "bestial" cruelty of man, but that is terribly unjust and offensive to beasts, no animal could ever be so cruel as a man, so artfully, so artistically cruel.
— Fyodor Dostoyevsky

So, first day of Comic Con is over! I had tons of fun with my friends! I was recognised a handful of times but Hawkguy still doesn’t get enough love! Also.. Clint’s a Hufflepuff and you can’t change my mind.
Those who believe that we are anything other than animals are blind. All humans are savages. The ones who are well fed are just lazier. They don't need to kill to get their food. So they dress up and find so-called loftier pursuits that make them believe that they are somehow above it all. Such nonsense. Savages are just hungrier. That was all. You do horrible things to survive. Anyone who believes that they are above that is delusional.
— Harlan Coben in Das Grab im Wald
Did I ever tell you, I say as I speak into the void, about the beginning of the pandemic how I had to assist and comfort a man who had lost his son?
I worked at a bank and the specialty team for deceased customers was not on site. I was. So, I sat down and helped the man review his son’s last purchases. I didn’t know why, but the man asked so I helped. I know grief - it has no answers, just questions.
Eventually he started asking the times of purchases. Finally, he explained (because I had thought it rude to ask) that his son died in a carjacking and he needed to report a series of purchases as fraud as his son’s murderers had used his cards.
The son was 22. The thieves only managed to get about $250. We turned over our information to the police, and heard nothing back.
It’s a thread of a tragedy in which I played a part. The witless banker who didn’t realize they were helping wrap up the threads of a child’s life. There’s an empty, hollow feeling in between my heart and my stomach when I remember.
I was witness, but could not speak.
