"You know what I think?" Jack drawled, shifting on his seat, clearly trying to look intimidating.

And to be frank, Hiccup didn't think it was working the way the white haired boy was intending it to.

"No, but I suspect you're about to tell me." It's not like Hiccup could just leave, after all, what with him being tied up like this.

Jack grinned.

"Something brought you here..." He stood up and grabbed the staff he'd lain against the wall, practically taunting the bound man to see it casually standing there, as if it was just another piece of furniture.

"It could have been fate, maybe it could have been destiny," Jack said ignoring the way his magic jumped to his fingertips at the slightest touch of the staff.

"Or it could have been the useless reptile," Hiccup muttered angrily.

"What was that?"

"Nothing! I said probably, probably!"

By the mocking smile on Jack's face, Hiccup could guess that this whitewashed recluse didn't buy into his excuse a tiny bit. But the guy didn't call him out on it, instead nimble playing with the staff he'd taken painstaking measure in stealing from the Royal Treasury.
