how to remember a shit ton of content
So. Picture this. You’ve been taking notes pretty diligently all term, and you think you have pretty good grip on most things. But. You have forgotten: your Situation.
Maybe you’re a student at a very intense uni like Oxford or Harvard. Maybe you’re a medical student, a GCSE student doing 16 GCSES (why would you do that to yourself), or maybe, like me, you are entering/ doing the International Baccalaureate and somehow you now have 6 subjects and three very intense exams for each of them. It’s fine.
Anyway. You realise you’ve filled two whole notebooks and then realise that all of THAT needs to go in your HEAD. I know I’ve certainly looked at a notebook and thought ‘how is it going to fit?’. I have a strategy that has helped me through all studying ever. For evidence: in sixth grade, I left studying for a social studies test about the capitals of ALL THE COUNTRIES OF THE MIDDLE EAST AND NORTHERN AFRICA to the night before. I used this strategy and got 100% on the test.
Take it one by one. Break things up into manageable chunks. I know it seems bloody obvious, but you’d be surprised how often people forget that this is an option.
Do you suddenly have 100 terms to learn for biology? 100 doesn’t seem like that much if you break it up into 25, 10, or 5 a day. Give yourself breaks. If you have a 3 page monologue to learn for LAMDA tomorrow, take it two lines at a time. You’re never going to get anywhere if you get hung up on the fact that you have so much stuff to fit in your brain and never actually start trying to stuff it in.
