Elphelt progress update! Swipe to see how I'm handling these armored sleeves! Often times cosplay calls for really weird, carefully thought out construction processes, and the sleeves and armor for Elphy are definitely one of those cases. I love these strange challenges and would like to share with you how I plan to make it work! (2) At the top of the sleeve, the fabric needs to hold a wrinkle from the "weight" of the armor piece. To do this, I am using 2mm. I will heat shape the creases, then apply my pleather to it with spray adhesive to make the fabric look creased without worrying about it moving around. The armor needs a more structured backing to hold it, which is where my heavy interfacing comes in. The interfacing will also keep the trim structured. I may need to add some sculpture wire for more support, but will have to wait til later to determine that. (3) There are red stripes across the upper arm of the sleeve for which I am topstitching the edges, and will have to handsew in place onto the sleeve. One end of each strip wraps around and has a snap closure on the back of the sleeve, so this has to be attached carefully to have that look without being functional and potentially coming undone or becoming an unnecessary fuss while wearing it. (4) And finally, my armor has spikes that have been cast from resin! They will be embedded into the eva, but before that happens, will need to be finished. The finishing process I have planned (they've already been dremeled, dry, and wet sanded) is to use filler primer, paint them metallic, and hand weather them. Once sealed, I will then epoxy them in place. Hopefully this info can be at least a little insightful if you're ever working on a project with these kinds of challenges. Theres a lot going on in the world, and I am grateful to be able to spend this time crafting and working on my passion as a productive escape.
