Never so capable as defeating a real threat on his ownー Being so useless as to fall the second he comes on the battlefield. The Prince’s fire had burned as hot as it could, but with his dwindling willpower, so waived the heat of his soul’s flame. The crystals swallowed him, held him and preserved him. And it would continue to do so until someone else succeeded in the fight against the end. Or until the demon accomplished her goal. No amount of force had any effect or give. He was stuck in the silence from all but his own thoughts. Isolated and blind. Zha apologised, with a deepening heaviness to the person waiting for him back homeー that they have waited for so long. That they will continue to wait, if they hadn’t already met the same fate as he.

He tried. He really did. He had tried as much as he was worth. But past history and his current outcome told him that he really wasn’t worth that much at all. That negativity simmered until it’s the only thought on his mind; thickly condensed and sickly in taste.

Whatever relief this hitchhiker had upon being picked up from the middle of nowhere must have died the second he realised who the driver was. Zha didn’t count himself as a welcome sight amongst any kind of ‘yaoguai’ but more so with one that could be placed higher on the generalised threat scale. He looked at the man that occupied his passenger seat through his rear view mirror, duly noting that a demon’s dignity had to be in play with these milquetoast protests. Such a man may not understand the simple desire to help someone in need, so Zha wasn’t going to bother trying to explain it.

He ignored the arachnid man for only a moment. In the end, he hated leaving his stance at all vague; he, the prince who oh so frequently boiled his blood for not speaking his mind.

    “I wouldn’t count you among my usual patrons. So if you really want, I can drop you off right here and you can walk the rest of the way.” He gestured a thumb to the expanse of barren fields and mountain surrounds. “But if you’d rather sit in where there’s heating—” Or air conditioning, whichever the man prefered “—then sit tight and be patient. There is still a while to go.”

Without any urgency, Zha cruised along the wide empty road. So both he and his passenger could take in the sights. Might as well make the best of a bad situation, no?

Despite the drive to do so, he wasn't about to argue too hard on the matter. Zha closed his eyes and sighed with his whole chest, unable to see from Xiuying’s perspective here.

   "There are those that beg to differ, I'm sure." Like he himself for one. Mindful of the conversation tone, he thought to keep things light; self perception kept to himself. And rightfully so.

Zha was removed from his rings and the ground. As he was lifted into the air, he squirmed and thrashed to no avail.

   “WUJING!”

If they had been enemies, he’d have fought a lot harder. But the proud prince gave up fighting pretty quick. And rose his voice instead.
