“Your creative endeavors can never be thoroughly mapped out ahead of time. You have to allow for the suddenly altered landscape, the change in plan, the accidental spark– and you have to see it as a stroke of luck rather than a disturbance of your perfect scheme. Habitually creative people are, in E. B. White’s phrase, ‘prepared to be lucky.’”

A really bad day on the high seas.
1937: The Hindenberg is consumed by fire mid-air while approaching a mooring mast in Lakehurst, NJ. In 34 seconds, the entire airship is engulfed by fire and 36 are killed.
Everyone is familiar with the Hindenberg disaster of 1937 where 35 people were killed, but few people know that other airship disasters had higher body counts. The French airship, the R101, caught fire and crashed in a storm killing 48. In 1933, the USS Akron airship was struck by lightning and went down into the ocean, killing 73.

83 years ago today, the Hindenberg blew up over Lakehurst, NJ. Sam Shere got the shot saying "I had two shots in my big Speed Graphic but I didn't even have time to get it up to my eye. I literally 'shot' from the hip. It was over so fast there was nothing else to do."
