I have decided to undertake a massive project with two different fandoms and one in particular is to do with Tolkien. Since reading the Silmarillion and having already started on the other project, I wondered what it would be like to actually undertake the teachings of the Valar and what it might include. Thinking back to my school days I decided to compile a textbook full of all the subjects that you would take in school but with stuff that comes from Tolkien's work. It is going to include: 1. History of Arda - this is already something that Tolkien has given us in the form of the Silmarillion, The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings but will be a condensed version and will have fun little questions and tasks to do so that fans can not only understand but introduce perhaps their love of the world to others in a good way. It may even educate those who haven't quite got everything. 2. Valar, Maiar and their roles - because in this fandom you need a who's who and if you wanted to ask questions about a particular aspect of study you know who to ask 3. Timeline of events - because in all History classes at some point you needed one of these 4. Languages of Arda and Aman - comes with how to read runes, write, understand and speak each and every language from Sindarin to Orcish to Nandorin and Telerin to Westron and Adúnaic. This covers the English Language part of school. 5. Poems, songs and hymns - this collection of poems, songs and hymns from all the books is here for you learn and analyse at your own pleasure. This covers the English Literature side of school. 6. Atlas and Maps of Arda and Aman - covers the subject Geography. 7. Plants and Flora of Arda and Aman - means you get to know exactly what Athelas does and how to use it properly, along with the other herbs that Tolkien wrote about. Follows what Estë would do to heal those in need and what she would use and why. 8. Currency and Mathematics - In the Shadow of Mordor game we see that the people of Arda had a sort of currency and it is mentioned in the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings but now you too, can use their currency system and learn how they would study Maths. 9. Race, Culture, Laws and Customs - this fits in with the Ethics and Philosophy classes. It covers everything from LACE to what kind of culture all races have. This also is an insight into what Mandos does and what his job as Doomsman means. 10. Ilúvatarism vs Melkorism - covers the Ethics and Philosophy side of things and goes into detail regarding how they might practice their religion and what kinds of things to expect someone to believe in if you hear they are a follower of the two. 11. Physics of Arda - again this is split into separate chunks (a bit like the History of Arda) the Physics of Arda delves into the Geology (how Aulë formed Arda and how it ended up the way it is) and Astrology (constellations that Varda makes and why). 12. Periodic Table of Elements - this covers the Chemistry of Arda using the Table of Elements. 13. Smithing - this goes into more depth as to what Aulë teaches the Eldar in Almaren as well as what to do to craft something. 14. Ringmaking - if you wanted to follow the teachings of our beloved dark Maia, Sauron, then this would be a good subject to read as well as practice. This covers how Ringmaking in particular is different to other ways of smithing. 15. Creatures and Animals - this follows the teachings of Oromë, Yavanna and other Valar. Which animals are safe to hunt, not safe, ones that are dangerous, ones that aren't dangerous and everything in between. 16. Magical Studies - how magic affects Arda and exactly which magic is safe to use and not to use (also covers Necromancy). 17. Dreams - the work that Irmo would have passed on and how to analyse them. 18. Weaving - how to actually weave 19. Sailing - what to do to sail like the Númenóreans 20. Battle Strategy - this is based on Melkor, Sauron, Tulkas and other famous leaders. What their strategy was, why it failed or why it worked so that when planning on a war you can strategise like them. 21. Psychology of Arda - this follows the teachings of Nienna in how to be compassionate but also how to read emotions. 22. A Guide to Númenor - in case you wanted to visit :) The other one I'm doing is a book that has compiled each and every textbook ever mentioned and shown in the Harry Potter fandom and so I will be posting that in the tag #notofthisfandom and like this one I will be posting parts of the chapters and what to do.
