I feel like I’m mostly immune to stuff like tiktoks and instagram reels and youtube shorts because I just don’t enjoy watching short videos. I like watching longer videos but the short ones just don’t do it for me, idk why. Even when I briefly had a tiktok account I would spend maybe a couple minutes on there and get bored. I don’t get how people get sucked in and watch hours at a time

A large part of it which isn’t just exclusive to videos is that I can *feel* the algorithm working. I see that all the time on custom feeds and for you/discover pages and it just feels so obvious and it feels gross. Like I can tell it’s designed to try to use my interests to suck me in. And sometimes it works, like it is convenient having my interests front and center, but other times I just feel like a product. I hate how every fucking thing has to have an algorithm now. Like leave me alone stop tracking me

Also there are little things that put me off short videos and I think it’s the tiktok culture of it all, like the way videos are formatted with certain diction or presentation. Like for example on instagram I constantly get pnf clips recommended to me and they all have these stupid captions like “nahhh bro really said this 💀😂😭” seriously they ALL say some variation of that and I can’t stand it. they’re the actual stupidest captions I’ve ever seen. and it just pisses me off instead of making me want to watch the clip (which I rarely do anyway because like I’ve seen it already too many times). and so the only times I’ll click on them is to check out the comments which are always stupid and very base level to the point where they can be entertaining (like the ones I screenshot occasionally)

anyway I’m definitely one of those “just give me an article” people, although those also suck because oftentimes they have so many ads they’ll fill up the whole screen. isn’t the modern internet fun????????

I found this youtube channel that has every beatles album edited to only play the beginning and ends of every song so they’re all like 10-15 seconds each and they renamed every album and song to have “short” in the title. it’s great
