on the topic of henry again because I think I finally have the words, it is endlessly fascinating to me that in his short time on page he's put in about 4 situations of emergency or stress. his car breaks down in the middle of the night, he has a gun pointed at him by the gray man (the risks associated with the gray man established earlier in the tdt scene with declan), he's faced with his kidnappers, and his new friend immediately dies in front of him. of all of these situations, only ONE freaks him out objectively, only one seems to actually shake him, and that's Laumonier in the 7/11 scene. they're in public! henry is surrounded by 3 people to be witnesses and prevent harm, as well as the cashier and the general public! not a single gun is pointed at him, but Laumonier's simple presence makes him more panicked than he's been at any other point. I knowww I knowww it's not done overtly or intentionally but the reason I hc it that way is because it establishes such an excellent depiction of trauma and ptsd in a character. gray is not the first man to point a gun at him that's par for the course! hell, adam trying to kill him is also par for the course. but just seeing Laumonier across the store? THAT scares him even when he hasn't seen them in years
