You’ve mentioned in your headcanons that the sun doesn’t do solarflares on purpose… do the planets know that he can’t actually control them or…
Maybe the sun thinks that they know he has no control over them? Maybe only Jupiter or Mercury has figured it out? There are so many ways this could go and all of them are angsty

Sol thinks they know he has no control over them. He always aims away from his planets when he feels one building up.
The planets think he does them when he's mad to show them who's the boss.
