How about “ i can’t hurt him. ” from the prompt list?
This got.... so fuckin long.... I am so sorry fkfjdjdb
Rain swallowed hard, watching as the large man with dark eyes loomed over both them and Inspector Zenigata.
Damn, they chose the wrong day to go out for field work. They should've stayed in their room, tinkering with their inventions, like Lupin always said they were the best at. They hadn't been with the gang for some time now- not since their personal security had been breached and they'd been blackmailed by INTERPOL's newest officer.
Their eyes flicked to the thief now, bound and unconscious. It hurt seeing him so helpless, and it hurt more knowing that they'd had a part in it.
"You think you can stop me?!" The man's voice boomed as he picked up the inspector by his coat. Zenigata seemed weightless as he dangled, fighting with all of his strength. "INTERPOL put ME in charge of this case! Not you! They even gave me your little assistant because you were too useless to figure out how to use them!"
"Rain isn't my assistant, they're my partner- an equal!" The inspector insisted, limbs swinging wildly as he wormed his way out of the mans grip, dropping back to the ground less than gracefully. "If you wanna kill Lupin, you'll have to get through me first!" He quickly regained his footing, standing with arms spread before the thief. "You're an officer of the law, for God's sake! You're not anybody's judge, jury or executioner!"
"Sir--!" Rain tried to warn the inspector of the incoming shot, but it was too late. The sound of the gun rang out loud and clear. The bullet struck his shoulder, and he felt his knees buckle before dropping to them.
"Y-you're not one of us," Zenigata spat, vision blurring and fading as he looked at the blood coating his hand that had fled to his shoulder. "You're a damn monster."
"You are nothing to me," The man responded coolly, practically throwing Zenigata aside just in time for him to lose consciousness as well. "You! Tie him up as well!"
Rain froze, body trembling. They couldn't do anything but stare.
"Are you deaf or just dumb?! I said tie him up!" Still, they made no move. The officer turned back, pressing the barrel of his gun against their forehead. "You IDIOT! You're going to make me pull the trigger on you for something this insignificant? TIE HIM UP. Maybe when he wakes up I won't tell him about your little secret, you dirty double agent!"
Suddenly, he dropped the gun, gasping put a curse and grabbing at his hand. Rain barely had time to process before they heard a very familiar voice.
"Kidnapping Lupin, carelessly pointing a gun at my Partner," The twirl of a magnum around a finger caught the light and blinded the man, enough for Rain to take advantage of the moment and run from his side, closer to Jigen, "Now that's just a good way to get yourself shot."
The officer stood from his hunched over position, looking towards the sharpshooter. "HA! You think I wouldn't plan for you to show up? Lupin's loyal lap dog?"
Jigen gritted his teeth, ready to take aim once again and knock this guy down a couple pegs. Before he could pull the trigger, though, the ground under his feet seemed to give way. He fell, catching himself on the walls of the narrow pit just before hitting the spikes that were placed at the bottom.
"Always spike pits with you guys," He grumbled, crawling his way back up. As soon as he reached the ground floor, however, he was met with a rifle in his face. Damn. Pulling himself up, he pocketed his pistol and raised his hands.
"Never let anybody say that Daisuke Jigen didn't know when to give up," The officer laughed, "Now get over there with your friend." He corralled Jigen to Lupin, where he tied him up. "Now," He straightened himself up once again, "Goodnight."
Before he could hit Jigen with the handle of his gun, the man was knocked off balance by a sudden weight crashing into him. Rain, bodyslamming with all of their might, struggled to grab his gun. Once they had it secured, they shakily pointed it at the officer. They had had enough. "Don't you dare hurt him!"
"Sounds like SOMEBODY," The officer bounced back quickly, hand now raised to Rain, "No longer cares about keeping their split loyalty a secret from INTERPOL! Tell me, what do you think they would do to a traitor like you? What do you think it would do to your inspector friend to know that his only friend, his partner, his equal, was secretly working with his sworn enemy behind his back the whole time?"
Rain paled, swallowing hard. Their hands shook much too much. Jigen's life was more important to them than their secret, than their double life, than anything. "T-to hell with that! I'll take whatever's coming to me!" They cocked the gun and tried to steady their aim. "You won't hurt my friends- my FAMILY- any more!"
"Fine, then." He strode closer, confident that Rain wouldn't shoot, "I'll just have to kill you myself!" He lunged, pulling out a second gun and holding it to their head. Suddenly, they were trapped.
Jigen fought against the ropes desperately, trying to worm his way out of them. Dammit. Lupin was so much better at this than he was, and where was he? Still unconscious. "Rain! Let them go, you bastard!" He called out, as if that alone would protect them. It was all he could do.
"But before I kill you..." The officer turned both of them so that the frozen Rain was now shakily aiming the stolen gun at Jigen. "You're going to kill him."
Rain drew in a breath, body jerking as if that sentence had finally awakened their fight response. "Like hell I am!"
"Oh, you dont have a choice!" His grip tightened, the barrel of his gun once again held against their temple. "He's going to die one way or another, either you'll do it, or I'll kill you both! It's up to you, traitor."
"I cant hurt him! You'll have to kill me before I--"
"Rain!" They looked over at the sound of Jigen's voice. His eyes were determined, genuine, and shining like they always did when he made those decisions that made Rain call him an idiot. "Listen to him."
"Wh-what?! Jigen, no fucking way! I'm not going to--"
"He'll kill me either way. This way you'll be safe. You can keep going with Pops, okay?" They started to argue again, but he shook his head. "I'd rather the bullet that ends my life come from you, caro."
Rain trembled, eyes filling with tears. "I can't! I-I cant!" The gun held to their head cocked, and they swallowed hard.
The officer growled, taking one hand and wrapping it around Rain's. His fingers on top of theirs pulled the trigger, and everything Rain saw suddenly went black at the sound. They were unaware of anything except their own guttural scream of Jigen's name, the last thing he would ever hear.
The world faded away, as if they were the one who just got shot. They fell, completely limp, to their knees, trembling, begging the world to tell them it was a lie.
The first thing to come back to them was the sight of metal. Long, thin, sharp metal. A blade? Their eyes traveled up the sword, and Rain's heart pounded once again. "G-Goemon...!" Two halves of a bullet lay at his feet, and Rain's tearful eyes immediately traveled to Jigen, who was very much alive, protected by his friend's skill. "Thank God...!"
In one swift motion, the ropes around both Lupin and Jigen were cut. The sharpshooter stood and drew his gun, pointing it directly at the officer. With no hesitation, without so much as a taunting word of victory, the trigger was pulled twice, each shot hitting their mark of his shoulder and leg. "That won't slow him down forever. Grab Lupin, let's get out of here!"
These orders, Rain would follow. They grabbed their unconscious friend as Goemon did the same for Zenigata.
"I can't believe you," Rain muttered as they sat beside Jigen, holding onto his hand with all of their strength. "You were just going to let me shoot you?"
The beat of silence that followed lead Rain to believe that this was the truth. "With your aim? C'mon, I knew I wasn't in any danger."
They scoffed, but knew that he was absolutely right. "I'm hurt, Jigen!"
"Not as hurt as you would've been in Goemon didn't come in and save our asses," He mused, giving their hand a squeeze. "Thank God for that samurai."
"You're telling me! I thought you were a gonner." They squeezed his hand back, thankful for the fact that they still could. "If this is what all this field work is like for you guys, you'd better stay safe out there. That's a threat."
"Threaten me all you want. As long as I have you waiting for me? I'll be okay."
