You're so right that Hino's narrative doesn't support this OT3 fantasy that Zero & Yuki concocted. And I mean no offense to OT3 shippers, but Hino clearly had no way of resolving Zero and Kaname's dynamic and just tried to avoid the "what if" question by having Zero joke about punching Kaname all the time, like... Okay Hino, that's nice...? Unlikely, but nice...

That being said…
Hino’s way of writing is just so.. unnatural to the flow of these character’s development and progression? That really can be said all throughout VKM, honestly. Nothing, in my opinion, happens organically, it’s all driven by the concepts Hino wants to force and less how naturally we’d see these characters develop and grow into with how the narrative unfolds.
Like, I’m torn, anon, I could rip this manga a new one but I also don’t care or have the energy to get into it cause Hino’s canon just sucks, quite frankly. LOL
At the end of the day, we all know Hino was a piss poor writer. It’s as plain as day and I challenge anyone to say otherwise. We can like certain concepts and characters but overall the story wasn’t satisfying. It just wasn’t. And that’s okay! As I’ve repeated multiple times—fanfic write the ending that pleases you and you’d want to see! ^^ I endorse and encourage creativity! It’s not all for not since Hino’s idea is just that. An idea. Expand upon what you’d like to see instead.
There’s just so much I’d want differently and mostly it’s all context. A lot of the events can actually happen the same but what matters is contextually how it can satisfy the overarching story and characterization and growth!

Thank you for your dedication to actually making fic recs with fresh content 🙏🏽 Every time I scroll through other fandoms now alI I can think is: "I wish Al would make a fic rec for this." It can get frustrating being recommended the same four fics 😣
I get that, one of the reasons I tend to avoid large fandoms is it makes it easier to find what you're looking for. I think finding new stuff to read isn’t TOO hard if you use all the ao3 filters to your advantage. Something as simple as changing it up and sorting them by word count/comments/bookmarks instead of just hits/kudos is a good way to come across new things. If there’s an author you really like try checking their bookmarks, chances are if you like what they’ve written you’ll like what they’ve read. Also, filtering by language and completion status can cut out a lot to sort through.
but yeah, i don’t know, i see them as a good way to keep fandom circulation going, so: more people rec new fics > more content gets interaction > more encouragement for content creators > more content > fandom grows
