what if you were a failprince with a war hero for a father that you could never live up to. so you strip yourself of all desire and become daddy’s empty vessel who’s entirely propelled by the crown, because that’s what your father is, entirely propelled by the crown. and what if your father had one thing he allowed himself to be selfish about and it wasn’t even you. it was his little brother that he spoils in a way he’s never spoiled you, loves in a way he’s never loved you, and your uncle doesn’t even need to try. no one tries as hard as you to be what your father wants and it never works. and then the source of your father’s happiness kills him and you are left with a gaping hole in your heart where your father’s love ought to be and your uncle is begging for absolution that you do not want to give him. you want to tear him apart and figure out why it was that your father could love him, even until the very end. you want him to show you what exactly he did for your father that you could not, how exactly he pleased him where you failed, and what a selfish thing to ask of your grief-stricken uncle?
