The after school sun cast long, amber shadows across Furin High. Below the gentle rustle of the school grounds was Suo, playfully teasing about your flushed cheeks, completely ignoring your attempts to hide your face of pure embarrassment. The same thing like this had always happened after school. Although you hate to admit it, you secretly enjoyed these moments with just you and Suo
It was just another Tuesday evening at Makochi. The sky had quickly faded into a bruised purple as you were waiting impatiently for Suo to come out of that stupid tea shop he would always go to (you were so close to just barge in and throw natto at him). After what it seemed like an eternity, Suo came out with a whole bag of tea bags. He seemed annoyingly calm with his eyepatch perfectly straight and his soft lips forming a pleasant smile.
“You know, (Y/n)-san~,” Suo hummed, tilting his head just enough so his long, two-toned bangs would catch the glow of the street lamp. “If you keep frowning like that, your eyebrows might just get stuck that way, and that would be quite a shame to see that lovely face get ruined, don’t you think so?”
“Shut up, Suo!” you snapped, your cheeks instantly heating up. You looked away, huffing out a breath while crossing your arms defensively. “I’m not frowning! I’m just… I’m just thinking about how unbelievably irritating you are! Why do you always have to say things like that without batting an eye? It’s weird!”
“Is that so?” Suo let out a soft, amused laugh, completely unfazed by your statement. He stepped a little bit closer, invading your personal space in that casual and effortless way of his. “I’m merely just stating facts. I think it’s quite sweet how you wait for me after every single patrol day,”
“I-I wasn’t waiting for you!” you shrieked, your voice cracking slightly before you quickly caught yourself. You pointed a trembling finger at his chest, refusing to look him in the eyes, afraid he will see your noticeable blush once again. “Don’t flatter yourself! Nirei-kun was taking forever with his notes, so I had to stay. Sakura-kun dragged me along! Yes! That’s it! I just didn’t want to get lost with those idiots.”
Suo blinked, clearly not believing a single thing you had said. “Ah, of course. How could I forget?” Suo nodded thoughtfully, though his eyes were filled with mischief. He put his hands in his pockets, but then he suddenly took one hand out to reach up and gently brush a strand of hair out of your face. “Well since you’re going this way, would you mind helping me with a little something?”
Your breath hitched. The sudden, light and soft touch of his fingers against your cheek made your heart hammer out of your body. You immediately swatted his hand away, jumping back. “W-What do you want now? I’m busy! (Not really). What makes you think I’m your personal assistant, Hayato!”
“It’s about my hair,” Suo simply said, ignoring your outburst. He leaned back slightly against the wall, dropping his previously playful posture for just a second to let a hint of fatigue show on his face. “Some of the guys we dealt with today were a bit more aggressive than usual. My hands are a little stiff from keeping them in line. Could you help me adjust my hair? I know you always do it best!”
He looked at you with a soft, closed-eye smile, fully knowing your defenses would crumble right when he asks for help.
You narrow your eyes, crossing your arms even tighter than before. “Your hands are stiff? Oh please, you probably just want an excuse to slack off and make me do all the work. You’re completely fine! Besides, you never get hit!”
You glare at him fiercely, your face was blazing red. You wanted to yell at him more. You wanted to tell him to ask Nirei or Sakura. But the quiet vulnerability in his voice was enough to break you. You hated how much you cared about him. You hated his gentle and caring nature.
“Ugh! Fine!” you grumbled, stomping over to him with heavy, exaggerated steps. “But just because you’re pathetic at brushing your own stupid hair! Don’t get the wrong idea! Cuz I’m only doing this so that you don’t go looking like a scrub during patrols tomorrow! It’s embarrassing for Furin and me.”
“Thank you, (y/n). I knew you’d understand,” Suo said, his cheerful facade immediately coming back into place. However, instead of sitting down or bending his tall frame to match your height, he simply stood perfectly straight, hands resting casually at his sides. He looked down at you with a slight, knowing tilt of his head.
You stopped right in front of him, looking up at his lofty height, and your face burned even hotter. “Hey! Bend down! How am I supposed to reach your hair if you stand there like an over sized telephone pole you idiot!
“I’m perfectly fine right here, (y/n),” Suo chuckled, his eyes crinkling as he enjoyed your flustered panic. “Besides, I think it suits you. You look very cute having to stretch a little to reach me.”
“I am NOT cute!” you yelled, clenching your teeth so hard it hurt. “I will literally leave you right here on this sidewalk!”
“You wouldn’t do that,” he whispered softly, his confidence radiating outward
You let out a frustrated sigh, defeated my his calm persistence. You rose up on your tiptoes, your hands reaching up to gently untangle and adjust the strands of his dark hair. The close proximity was intoxicating. You could smell the familiar, clean scent of his uniform and the fresh, minty smell of his breath.
As you worked the locks between your fingers, trying your hardest to fix his hair without letting your hands shake, you found yourself muttering compliments under your breath.
“You know, you should really take better care of yourself,” you whispered, your voice softening as you brushed your thumbs against the back of his head. “If you come home with your hair a mess again, I’m not going to fix it. I’m gonna let everyone laugh at you.”
“Really?” Suo said, his voice just above a breath. “Then I suppose I’ll just have to make sure my hair gets messed up everyday, so I have a reason to see you.”
Your fingers froze for a split second, and your heart practically leaped out of your chest. You yanked a bit too hard on a strand of his hair.
“Ow! (Y/n), that hurts a little,” Suo laughed, though his voice lacked any pain.
“Good! You deserve it for being such an idiot!” you retorted, though you immediately softened your touch, guilt rising up to your throat. “Just hold still… I’m almost done” you murmured.
Suddenly, before you could even process his movements, Suo’s arms shot out and wrapped firmly around your waist. He pulled you flush again his chest, dropping his height just enough to bury his chin in the crook of your neck.
A sharp, shocked gasp escaped your lips. Your face felt as though it was completely on fire, a deep, red that spread all the way to the tips of your words. Your hands instinctively pressed against his shoulders, though your fingers just held on to the fabric of his uniform instead of pushing him away
“S-Suo! What do think you’re doing?!” you shrieked, desperately trying to keep your voice steady despite the trembling of your knees. “Let go of me right now! I’m stilling working on your hair!”
“I’m just holding my favorite person,” Suo whispered against the skin of your neck, his voice incredibly soft. “You’re always so angry, (y/n). But you’re also the only one who actually looks at me. Not as the vice-captain, not as the strongest first year. Just Hayato.”
“H-Hayato…” you whispered, the anger instantly draining from your voice, replaced by deep affection you tried so hard to hide. “You’re impossible. You always do this. You just… you just say whatever you want to get a reaction out of me.”
“Is it just a reaction?” Suo pulled back slightly, looking down into your eyes with a gentle, genuine gaze, which made your stomach flutter. “I wouldn’t hold you like this if it were just a game, (y/n). You know how much I care for you.”
You stared at him dumbfounded, wonderIng if the Hayato Suo had just confessed to you.
“Wait,” Suo said, his grip on your waist tightening just to stop you from running away. He leaned down, placing a soft, lingering kiss on your lips that were slightly parted. “Let me walk you home. It’s too dark for you to be walking alone.”
“I told you, I can take care of myself!” you protested, though your shoulder relaxed and your hands slowly lowered to rested against his chest.
You let out a long, dramatic sigh, rolling your eyes to the darkening sky. “Fine! If you’re going to beg me to let you walk with me, I guess I have no choice. But you have to carry my bag, so don’t you dare try to hold my hand the whole way! It’s too hot out here!”
“Yes, ma’am,” Suo chuckled, his bangs swaying as he gave you a gentlemanly bow.
As the two of you started down the quiet, lantern lit street, you snuck a quick glance at Suo from the corner of your eye.
“Hey, Hayato…” you muttered, your voice quiet and hesitant.
“Hm?” Suo tilted his head, listening closely to you.
“Tomorrow… I guess I can wait for you after patrol again,” you blurted out, your face returning to a soft pink color. You squeezed his hands tightly, your voice rising to a defensive huff. “But only because Nirei gets completely lost on his own (which is a lie ofc), and I don’t want to spend the entire night looking for his empty-headed notes! Don’t get the wrong idea!”
“Of course not,” Suo laughed softly, his smile affectionate and warm. “I understand perfectly.”
“You better!” You snapped
The rest of the walk was somewhat peaceful, occasionally your grumbles and muttering could be heard, but that didn’t stop how teasing Suo can be towards you. Despite that, you wouldn’t want anyone else but him by your side.

Suo x GN! reader
word count: 669
/warnings/: none - reader is a blushing mess and suo is a sweetheart
/summary/ walking home in the dark is not one of you best ideas, but suo is here to save the night!
Walking home after being out with your friends most of the day by yourself is not one of your smartest movies. You were not in the safest of places to be walking by yourself in the dark, it wasn’t too far of a walk for you at least and you know most of the alleyways and whether you could cut through them or not. But maybe it would not have hurt to call Umei or Tsubaki to come and walk you home just to be safe.
