*takes a huge sip and slams it back down on the bar counter* no, no, no, okay, okay, no, look, okay, look. not all hate-love is the same. okay. enemies with benefits, rivals to lovers, toxic yaoi, kismesitude, they're not all the same, okay? not at all. okay. look. so. rivals to lovers, you know, pretty straightforward, you start off as enemies, end up as lovers. point A to point B. enemies with benefits, no romance involved, i'd argue? most might disagree but i have pretty progressive views on the concept of friends with benefits. point is, i insist that it's when there's no romance, just a combination of genuine hatred and sexual attraction. you can hate someone and still want them without being okay with them outside of sexual contexts. toxic yaoi doesn't always involve any hate. sometimes it's obsessive infatuation instead. what matters is the abuse, mutual or not, between the two partners. and like, just scoffing or stepping on your shoe isn't really there, but it's not any of the other three i listed either? some of them don't fit into any of these, i don't think there's a specific term for that, though, unfortunately. i personally say hate-love as an overall category thing but the most common i've seen for this is a jokey "enemies AND lovers" so i guess use that? and... OH RIGHT kismesitude! you may think it's the same as "enemies and lovers," but it's actually kind of its own specific thing? it's like... okay, okay, wait, wait, wait, lemme just. *takes another gulp and slams the drink back down again* okay. okay. right. so. so in homestuck,
