Morning Doodle: “He pointed out larks’ nests and wild geranium, and caught a field mouse for Oncat, who seemed too spoiled to do any hunting of her own.” (Leigh Bardugo’s Ruin and Rising CH 14)
s&b cast cooking headcanons
okay I’ll start with in canon time period because pretty much none of them can cook in that context lmao Mal and Alina had meals provided to them in orphanage and then in the army, the Grisha characters also had meals provided to them and Nikolai was a prince and had a cook on Sturmhond’s ship so 💀 Mal and Alina know camp fire cooking canonically and the twins + Grisha characters like Zoya who actually were out in the field (basically not Genya and David lol) presumably know as well but I think if you put any of these characters in an actual kitchen, they would not know what to do with themselves
now in a modern au however…
can cook and cooks well: Zoya, Genya, Nikolai, Mal, and the twins. I think Mal and Nikolai would both enjoy cooking and I think Zoya cooks herself because she has vested interest in eating healthy, so she prepares her own food and she really only eats on occasion and it’s never to anywhere not fancy. Genya and the twins I say would be good at cooking just based on vibes tbh
can follow a recipe but does not cook often at all: Alina and David, they both would rather be doing something else then cooking but they can do it. Alina (and this also applies to Mal but like I said, I think he likes to cook) would likely have grown up with eating fast food and microwave meals because those are easy, cheap, and fast and I don’t think that’s a habit she’d feel the need to break. Zoya judges her severely for this and ends up making her meals all the time because she can’t stand to watch Alina eat “junk” lol Door dash is both their [David and Alina] best friends because they can just keeping what they’re doing while waiting for it.
cannot cook at all, will burn food: Nadia, Adrik, Harshaw. Harshaw’s pyromaniac ass burns everything and eats everything way tooo spicy. Nadia and Adrik don’t get a lot of backstory so I don’t have reasoning for why they wouldn’t know how to cook like Alina but idk man. vibes. I just don’t think they do know lol
I made this as a wallpaper for myself.
Harshow: Kolya, I'm afraid. Nikolai: Just stay close to Zoya Harshaw: That's why I'm afraid.

grishaverse coffee shop + social media au part 2
it's genya's pov in dm
part 1
Alina, the Failleader
Ruin and Rising- Chapter 4
THAT IS ALINA'S WORK!
Not to mention it doesn't bode well for their oh-so-changed relationship because it's just Alina getting out of his way so he can act as THE beloved friendly leader. Instead of him accepting her power and influence, she draws back to serve as an idle shiny icon to his manly quest nobody else can complete. He doesn't suddenly respect her, she fills the mould he always wanted her to. There's just an audience to his "selfless" heroics.
I remember some complaining they're too loud?!
I thought this isn't a school field trip, but a super secret mission?!
It seems I'll repeat this A LOT, but some basic discipline?!
What's Alina here for, if she can't get her subordinates to stand each other DURING a mission?!
Again- talking to one's cat might be an annoying quirk *looks at my own cat, incomprehending*, but the flint thingy seems potentially dangerous, since none of those present is checking for poisonous or flammable gasses?!
Alina should simply step in, and tell Harshaw to quit that, but that would require her to ~do~ something instead of bitching about him in her head.
Of course Alina has to dismiss and insult the only person trying to comfort her.
I honestly think it's so interesting that people tend to pick Kaz when they're making a character aro/ace when in the books Tolya mentions having no interest in romance or finding a partner and Harshaw (who was sadly omitted from S2) is mentioned to only love fire.
