Knowing he can’t stay like that forever, Liam slowly moves up. He puts the bolt onto Theo’s waiting palm, averting his imploring gaze. There’s no way he could look Theo in the eyes now. Is that even true or has he finally gone mad with want?
Liam mutters something about a meet up with Mason that he hasn’t remembered about until now and exits the fuck out of there. His heart is beating so fast it hurts and there’s no doubt Theo can hear it.
All of a sudden, Liam feels hot for an entirely different reason. He might as well be in a sauna. Scratch that. In the middle of a forest fire.
This is way too dangerous. Way too dangerous. The most bone-chilling thing is Theo’s heartbeat stays steady through the whole thing, his face unchanging, chemosignals nothing out of order. How did Liam never realize how dangerous that was before?
Is this Heaven? Theo wakes up covered in soft beddings, a soft scent of jasmine waving about in the air. The overwhelming maroon and gold color scheme of the room, not to mention the Arctos royal symbol, a wolf head howling southward, says otherwise. He’s right at the heart of the enemy’s territory, their castle, and a high-ranking room at that. Shouldn’t he be in a dungeon somewhere?
Panic threatens to overtake his mind as a tightness settles in his throat at the prospect of being wounded and alone in the midst of danger. Out of habits, he reaches for the dagger usually left by his side. The motion is halted by a shackle around his right wrist, the other end tied to the bedpost.
“So…” the man of his dream starts, gathering Theo’s attention for a brief moment in his direction, then he still has to look back at the road, “how’s life been treating you?” Jesus, but he fills out his frame nicely.
Wiping away the afterimage of Liam’s shoulder frame, Theo searches his brain for something not too private, not too… exposed. But not impersonal either, “Good,” he smiles, it’s mostly true, “work’s great, coworkers… could use a little work, but I won’t complain too much.”
“Ah, that’s code for ‘my coworkers are my friends’, you lucky bastard,” Liam teases, still knowing how to read him like an open book.
As expected, once the food starts being served, Liam doesn’t hesitate to scarf them down as fast as they come out. Theo only takes a bite or two from each dish, determined to experience the wide range of culinary options available tonight. However, truth be told, his main focus lies elsewhere other than the seafood. The small tin case in his jacket barely weighs anything, nevertheless, he’s been aware of it ever since a bottle of wine was brought out.
In order to not be overly eager, he patiently waits until his stomach is at least half-full first. There’s no telling how catastrophic wolfsbane-induced alcohol poisoning would be, and Theo doesn’t intend to find out anytime soon.
