Hannam-dong, UN village
.
.
so when UN village came out, I came up with a little something cause I needed to get it off my chest. originally I wouldn't post it, but I read it again while having an actual mental breakdown and being extremely sad and angry, and I don't know why but I felt like I needed to share. so here you go, I hope you like it, it is very personal but still I hope you find bits of yourselves in there
✨just some thoughts and daydream of mine out into words

I would never think that a flight delay while trying to get back to my hometown from Seoul would have me walking down to one of the most luxurious neighborhoods of it, Hannamdong.
Its most known, expensive center, Un Village, was lit of plenty of street lamps that summer night. The Han River flowing gave it another look, and Nam Mountain had it imposing. I sighed, looking around. Tall, huge buildings and beautiful parks all over. People walking up and down the pavement, talking and laughing, no one paying attention to me. I didn't crave it at that time, anyway, I had my earphones plugged in and the rnb music playing had me completely lost in my own world.
Suddenly, a hand lands gently on my shoulder, making me slightly jump. I immediately took off my left earphone and turned around, to come face to face with a young man, around the age of thirty as I'd assume, light grey hair and beautiful brown almond eyes. Black shirt, beige baggy trousers and a white jacket thrown over his shoulders, he was beautiful.
"Do you have a match?," a soft, smooth, clear voice calls.
"I happen to actually have some, yes," I said and reached for the tiny box of matches in my backpack. I gave it to him and watched him as he lights up the cigarette he was holding in between his perfectly shaped lips, his fingers lithe and long. He gave the box back to me and sucked once, twice, blowing the smoke up away. I watched it as it dissolved into thin air, smiling to the patters it created.
"Do you smoke," he asked. I shook my head negatively.
"Better that way," he simply said and I didn't answer. He leaned back onto the metallic bar that separated the trees and flowers from the path people were walking on, and looked at me.
"Join me for a bit?" he said and I nodded.
"Sure." What did I have to lose. I went up to him and leaned on the bar as well, my hand crossed relaxing in front of me, on it.
"Passing by?"
"Having a flight delay, actually."
"But the airport is the other way around," he said, sucking in his cigarette again.
"I didn't wanna waste my time waiting for tomorrow morning in the airport, Seoul is too beautiful to not admire every bit of it," I said, full honesty in my voice. He smiled. I'd say that I saw it with the corner of my eye, but that would be a complete lie, as my eyes were fixated on him all the time, in a way that it would bother anyone else, but he seemed to enjoy it. Not narcissistically, but welcoming.
"I like your way of thinking. No moment is to be lost in this life, is it?" I agreed, making him smile again, and I found myself thinking that, despite the fact that he was a complete stranger, for as many moments as we'd pass together, I wanted to see him smile.
He turned to me again.
"How's your life?" he asked.
"I try to make it beautiful my way," I answered, the words coming to my mouth without even thinking of them. Another smile. Fuck.
"I like you."
"You like me. Do you know me?"
"I like people like you, if it makes you feel less uncomfortable. People who don't wait for someone to tell them how to live their moments in life, but the choose to go for it on their own."
"You don't?" I felt the need to ask.
"I am a completely different story. I don't know if you wanted to know."
"I leave tomorrow," I couldn't hide the sorrow in my voice.
"It's tonight that matters," he said, more like stated, brought the cigarette back to his lips, and turned to look at me, blowing his smoke to the small void in between us, him getting lost behind the fog for mere seconds, his eyes still fixated on mine, gaze the most intense I'd seen. I didn't stop looking in his eyes, I couldn't even if I wanted to. Plain brown, almond shaped, but the galaxies they were holding had me enough breathless to be lost.
And the silence, it was the first time I found myself in a state of silence that I didn't feel the need to break.
""How come you find yourself in Hannam Dong?" he spoke first.
"What do you mean?"
"You seem out of place."
I look at yourself, my fine black jeans and pale grey shirt, my black heels and my hair falling free on your shoulders.
I looked back at him with question marks in my eyes, only to find him smiling.
"I meant your eyes. You look around differently like any other person I've met."
"Is that good or bad?"
"You have your heart in your eyes. You look the way you feel and move as you think. People don't do that here."
Heart beating faster than it had ever done before, I smiled.
"Thanks, I guess. It's the first time someone noticed that."
"Maybe it's the first time someone told you that. It's impossible for you to go to places unnoticed."
Not knowing how to respond to that, with a shy smile on my face that was probably burning bright red, I turned around as he was and looked at the sky.
"Are you from afar?
" I am."
"Do stars shine as bright as they do here?"
I smiled.
"They shine differently, at least. They give me another feeling. Here, they are beautiful. There, they are just... Home."
"Do you find beauty everywhere you go?" he asked, a question I'd receive a lot everywhere I'd go.
"I tend to do so, yeah. It's my thing. It makes me vulnerable or naïve, I guess."
"I find you beautiful."
"I do, too."
"You?"
"You."
That's when he let out a small laugh, and my heart sank in my chest, not having heard a deepest, more honest, more soothing laughter in my life.
"Mind if we go for a walk? I wanna show you another angle of the stars here," he said, and all I could do is nod a lifeless yes as I could already see them reflecting in his eyes, realizing that home can be a voice, a smile, a pair of eyes, no matter how many flights I'd lose from now on.
