Recently, I wrote a story called Down By The Water, where I tried to work through some ideas about the Handmaid, and to really get her into my hands. And in the process, Handleer happened! It's an unusual ship, but It feels like both of these trolls are in serious need of a moirail, and especially within the context of that fic, when she meets him for the third time, she's absolutely wrecked and so numb she's barely functioning. Even in the most positive possible light, I don't think it could have been easy for the Handmaid to shape Alternia's history, and if she went exploring in doomed timelines at all, I think that must have made it so hard for her to do everything that had to be done. And just, Darkleer. I have some seriously out of control love for the Zahhaks, but it kills me to see what Horuss would have grown up into on an unsympathetic Alternia. I want to feel him out more, but I need a story first. My other favorite ship from this fic was pitch Handglare, so I might be drawing some of that soon!

So here's that Ladystuck treat I've been working on! I would like to know when my stories started getting quite so long. I can sprint 10k in a day if I have to, but this just isn't doable in a single day, and then it's hard to keep the momentum up, especially when you're already burned out on writing. But I did it! I was flipping through the collected prompts and AliveArsenic requested a story about the Handmaid's life, and the request particularly mentioned her being lonely. Now, that makes a lot of sense, but I haven't really written a story before where that was meant to be the focus of the piece. And since Shout To The Devil took the Condesce and wrote through her life as it brushed against all of the other ancestors, I really enjoyed having a chance to do the same for the Handmaid. It was nice to get to explore the Handmaid's life so thoroughly, so I hope you like this!
